Episode 1.3: Hellfire Ramparts

As Project Lore wraps up its normal run of Hellfire Ramparts, we get to see the guys completely own Vazruden the Herald and his mount Nazan. They get a few nice drops and wrap up Hellfire Ramparts. Rest assured future episodes will be run on Heroic. Get ready for the carnage and the fire breathing dragon.

As a demonstration of the last fight in Ramps, using 70s was a bad plan: you downed Vazruden so fast there was little or no time to see the key element of P1: getting everyone to step away from Nazan's flaming spitballs. It's a good introduction to situational awareness in boss fights, so a pity that Nazan landed before shooting a single spitball.

Awesome. I read the story about Project Lore on WoW Insider, and am glad I decided to check it out. You guys are all very entertaining, though I wonder about the mysterious 5th member only heard through the speaker lol.

The only thing I'd like to see different is not using sped up moments. I understand this is somewhat needed to keep some people's interest, especially in longer instances, but I think a lot of people would be up for watching the whole run.

Aside from that, very entertaining. Great job all around, you guys seem like a lot of fun to game with. Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to your next installment, keep them coming often!

EPIC!!

I'm currently rerolling with a few guys from my old server, and I so wanna do some 70s instances - no need now, I have got my fix via you guys!

Hopefully when you start doing harder instances/raids, you dont over edit and totally remove wipes, etc...but I'm looking forward to future episodes!

Show rocks! I know that some people dont agree with the speed-ups but i think they are fine since it is really only done on trash which isn't hard that hard to figure out. Right now my guild and I are doing Sunwell but there is definitely value in this as entertainment. Hope you guys keep it up!

Entertaining as always Alex, hope this site does well for you. I would love to see you guys attempt these instances on Heroic though.

Fantastic idea - the sort of thing we've been waiting for. Like the animated map, the pop-up explanations and the on-camera discussion of boss tactics. Also like the speaker-phone guy - very Charlie's Angels.

Looking forward to the next one - more challenging I hope.

Cheers,
Angobar

Nice job on pwning Ramps. Hope to see some heroics in the future. I almost died a couple times because I was playing WoW while watching this episode....lol

I approve.

Alex, I think I have the same shirt that you're wearing in this episode.

You pick the lowest level instance in Outlands to do as 70s? Why did you even bother with a tank? A 70 rogue could tank those mobs.

If you're following the order, Blood Furnace should be next. I'd love to see you do it on heroic, especially the gauntlet room.

Go do Shatterd Halls of Heroic.

Hum, doing a level 60 instance as level 70s? Did you guys down-rank spells or use lesser gear? The bosses died all too fast, not even one fear got off, and I only saw one fire from the sky. If you are going to do instances that are below your level and gear range, I recommend slowing down the boss fights, by down-ranking if you are levels above the content, and put on the range gear that would not be better then what the average person going into that progression of instance would have. A guide is not to show of how fast you can do the activity, yet to inform the view of every angle of an encounter, not just the camera angle. Your future guides will undoubtably aid many. Additionally, text transcripts of your video guides is something else you may add to your documentation.

Make MORE Videos!!!

July 15, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKarol

Nice. This will give me something to watch when the servers are down. =P

Seriously though, I really like what you guys are trying to do here. Most of the other video guides are poorly made. As others have said, though, doing it with level 70's is kind of defeating the purpose.

You could try running the heroics with your 70's while grinding up some alts to use for the normal instances. Hell, you could do videos of the lower level stuff that way too. I'd love to have a reference of, say, Zul'Farrak or the Sunken Temple for new players (or even myself as a refresher course before a run).

The videos would even be more entertaining with lower-level/lesser-geared characters. With 70's, there's no real threat, so there's no real suspense.

My only other complaint is that each individual episode is far too short. I would rather see a 20-30 minute video every week than a bunch of 4-5 minute ones.

Anyway, I seriously enjoyed the first 3 episodes and hope you guys keep doing this until long after Wrath comes around.

The moment I saw this project, I thought I was going to hear more about Wow from a story perspective. I mean it is Project: "Lore" right? About 1 minute into the series and hearing you talk about the instance itself got me excited, but then it just disappeared.

Now I gotta' say that I love the high quality video. Fast forwarding is definitely needed to keep up with the pace of the video. I also give you props for making that little minimap to show where you guys are heading in the instance. I was never big on mods so I can't really say anything about them. I can definitely see and hear everything pretty clear.

However, there are a couple of problems. You definitely have to do something with the overpowerment of the instance. This doesn't attract an epic feeling if you can just run through and kill everything. The kidding around was funny, but again I would like to hear less of that and more strategy/walkthrough. I would have also enjoyed it more if you did raids instead of group instances, starting with Karazhan. Sure I see four of you, but I can assume the rest of the members can cooperate with you. Raids is what most people will want to see, unless you remind them how the instances they see everyday relate to WoW Lore.

Seeing what your guys had equipped and hearing your communication tells me that you guys play casually. This isn't a bad thing; I play casually myself. I just figured that you would know a little bit more so you could convey interesting facts and important information that could intrigue your audience. No more "Oh I guess this guy drops a letter because I never got it" and more "After defeating Vazruden the Herald, make sure to pick up the letter from his corpse. It's an important message that you will need to bring to Trollbane in Thrallmar. Later, you find out that the letter is signed by Illidan and leads you to discover what is known to be the Blood Furnace. In fact, that is where we will head to next in our upcoming video."

What server are you guys on?

July 16, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterzack

Nicely done. I really liked this show and can't wait to see the future episodes. I think it's a great idea running through all the instances and explaining them as you go.

Keep up the good work and good luck.

July 16, 2008 | Unregistered Commentersmitty

great vids! hope to see more in the future. and if you guys are still doing this when LK comes out i would love to see it done at the lvls the instances are meant to be done at.

Now that they mention it, if you guys had some lower level characters, I'd love to see some of the Instances we all know and love. A hilarious lv 30 Deadmines video would be amazing. Or you could even do Zul'Farrak for sort of a side episode thing, where you do an enormous pull from the steps, have Jerry start blasting heals, and (If you guys can do it) Take down the massive mob that you can make. Then.... maybe 1 hit Gahz'rilla for laughs. Anyway, keep up the good work!

P.S.
I like how when I sent one of you a whisper, you actually replied, and were nice about it =D

P.S.S.
What the heck does P.S. even mean in the first place??? I mean, its like age old, but I have no idea of what it means? Please Savor? Perfect soup? Really confusing and....*rambles on*

HEY! You guys rock and rock at WoW!! Jerry, YOU OWN!! whats ur char.'s name?

....Oh! and great advice!

July 18, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNick

I think I would enjoy this show more if you were more drunk and you just sound bited the funny conversations that go on.

Like was already said, bosses went down wayyy to fast. Anyone who would watch this for education on the instance would have much more problems with things like Pats and vazrudens two stages. You killed him before the dragon even landed.

The UIs NEEEEEEEEED some cleaning up. I would disable SCT, as well as alexs tiefighter add on. If you keep SCT, make it to where it doesnt block the character. The hunter had it above the mob and that worked. From a visual standpoint you dont want the screen to be cluttered for the viewers.

I also agree that you should all really read up on all the instances before doing them. Learn the possible strats, say why you choose to do the one you do and explain other possibilities for different group makeup.

It would also be nice if you guys could gear up. This is a more personal complaint but its just embarassing to see ugly armor on "professionals" trying to talk about WoW. Take some pride in your character, Latros shifting blades? With arena gear and honor gear out, please take some time to get some better badge gear or something.

Also talk about your gear beforehand to let the viewers know what stats and enchants you choose and why.
