WoW Addict: A Case of Home Row Confusion

Ever plopped down at a computer, placed your hands upon its keys and started to type, only to realize your left hand is shifted slightly from its usual home row position? Perhaps your right hand is affixed to your in-game hotkeys? You may have a case of what I like to call Home Row Confusion. You also may be a WoW addict.
It's happened to me, many a morning as I meander into the workplace. I reach my cube and start up my computer. And then there it is. Home Row Confusion.
For a second, I'm a bit confused about why my typing isn't quite there. Maybe I need coffee, I reason. Then, it hits me. Like a ton of fire-bricks dropped by a raging gnome warlock trying to squash a Human down to size (See how HE likes being called "Shorty"). I am sick with a malady so powerful it's causing my brain to think my work computer is a gaming machine when, let's face it, the damn thing can barely run IE.
Like the WoW-inspired dreams that proclaim my infatuation with lore, dragons and being stealthy, this symptom of my addiction also frequently reveals itself to me after a particularly long playing session the night before. Apparently, my mind is still in play-mode, and is trying to tell me it would rather be questing among the lands of Azeroth than working. But alas, that is not usually an option at the moment the affliction strikes. Instead, I take a moment to refocus. Pry my fingers off W-A-S-D. And relocate them to A-S-D-F. Sometimes, caffeine is a necessity for them to remember this new configuration.
But the long-term effects can wear on. If you don't treat yourself, you could see this symptom popping up more and more frequently until one fateful day when you reteach the world what SHOULD have been defined as home keys from the start. But don't let yourself reach that point, for there is a cure. Clearly, your brain thirsts for more playtime after work or school. Another dose of WoW, a good rest, and you should be good in the morning.
Has anyone else suffered from a case of Home Row Confusion? What about any other WoW-related ailments that haunt you IRL?

I don't necessarily have home row confusion because I use the mouse a LOT to play WOW and the keyboard as exclusively as possible to do work.
The problem I have is a little more public and a little more weird. I play with a few RL friends and I find that when we walk places, we walk in the same formation we do in game... the tank first and in the center, the ranged DPS to the side and back and the healer to the other side and back a little more. We walk in formation. We play too much.
Interesting this post comes up today. I just had that situation at work. While working over a particulary boring piece of text, I founf myself hitting the W key to scroll up, then sitting there for a few seconds, puzzled as to why noting scrolled. Then I noticed a line of wwwwwwwwwwwwww that wasn't supposed to be there, and it dawned on my I shouldn't have played well into the morning last night :)
What? A-S-D-F?.. i always hold my hands on W-A-S-D no matter what im doing...
Oh noes..!
Same as Gerandor... Whenever i touch a keyboard my left hand always seems to be going back to W-A-S-D. Kind of weird i guess
I have no problem with the "HomeRow Confusion" for two reasons: I use the mouse a lot and I don't use the home row system. (I remember in elementary school being on the old PCs -- you know, the big ones with a small screen and letters in green font -- playing this "keyboard game" that was supposed to teach you to use home row. Needless to say, I didn't like it and chose to use my own way.)
I've spent so much time in computer classes that I don't get "Home Row Confusion". My fingers automatically drop into the standard "A-S-D-F" formation. It only changes when I'm moving around in the game. (I used to use the arrow keys if you can believe it.... until they fell off. >.<)
It affects other games, too. Just started playing Diablo II again, constantly confused why WASD doesn't move my character or a certain hotkey doesn't open the right menu.
So frustrating!
I use the arrow keys and I don't suffer from "Home Row Confusion".

Apart from being a serious addict, I surprisingly do not have this problem. :P
I had a friend that turned me onto using E-S-D-F instead of W-A-S-D since it keeps your fingers in the same place to type (which is especially handy for switching back and forth from running around to complaining in guild chat). It also gives you the ability to use your pinky finger for pressing buttons without having to move your fingers off of your movement keys.
And of course as an added bonus, I never have to worry about how much I play the night before cause my hand goes to the same keys at work and when playing.
Yes I have.
Almost whenever I'm in computer class I ALWAYS put my fingers down on W-A-S-D. I've been playing since before BC and never really took a break on it (except when I have projects, on vacation, etc.) and now it's almost like instinct.
The SECOND my fingers touch the keyboard my fingers are ALWAYS on W-A-S-D even in the dark, in a foreign country with a foreign keyboard, and blindfolded. But I realize that in about 2-3 seconds and i shift them over.
Also when i finish typing something i sometimes press Enter or I just instinctively move back to W-A-S-D.
(While typing this the third paragraph thing happened at least 3 times)
I last night after doing some paperwork press crtl + 1 to log off LOL. Not pet attacking time, bed time /facepalm
though i hate to admit it, ive had to stop myself from saying lol out loud a couple times, usually when someone makes a kinda funny joke.
Ive never had this problem becouse well i never learned to type i just got the hang of it by myself. i started typing when i started playing wow so my left hand has always gone straight to wasd. and i actualy barely use my left hand to type, most of the time its on the mouse. so i guess this would be called "home row. . .Knowledgeable? "
I've never had this problem to be honest.
Never had the issue. I'm a one handed typer. I reset my keys to Q-W-E-S. I'm a hunt-and-peck.
Now that you say ya my fingers do automatically drop to WASD but since i dont use the "home row" system it doesnt mess me up at all.
stuff that gets me is using all the abbreviation in public while talking to RL friends that play with me, we get weird looks lol.
wanna do 10 man nax tonight?
Nah I'm gonna run my war through BRD and get some gear.
/evil glare from stranger
lol good times
I've never had a problem with my keys because I'm an avid writer and I probably type and use other computer programs just as much as I WoW. I just automatically switch in and out different things I do on the computer without really thinking, including other mmo's I've play from time to time.
My biggest problem is possibly the mixing of irl events with stuff going on WoW, especially when I'm groggy. For example I'm part of my school's Improv. Team but, once, I was thinking about it and confused a few people in the Improv. Team with my guild members. It took me a while to remember the difference and I blamed it on being tired, but, at the same time, I always blamed it on too much WoW too.
the most addictive thing i ever had, was that i started pushing my push to talk button when on the phone at the computer, at that time i said to myself, lets take it easy the next few weeks :s
I want the M buttone to open a map on all programs including Word.
Home row is never a problem as I mouse to move and have most if not all of the functions I need Hot Keyed in some form or another.
My addiction from the game? That's not an easy thing to define. Gaming itself is the addiction to the point where I have to physically tear myself away from the computer every night to be able to get up at 6AM the next day.
It was to a point where I started limiting my weekday gaming (weekends are where I get my non-stop fix).
I guess the biggest problem I have at work is wanting to use game shorthand to write my emails to co-workers. I know gamers understand the speech, but I'm dealing with a lot of people who don't seem to understand that computers are more than just glorified typewriters. So the shorthand is lost on them.
happens all the time to me
Thats kinda funny. I just noticed as i was scrolling through the blog I was on the W-A-S-D keys.
But its also how i learned my co-worker plays WoW. I noticed his hand in the same position. (on the W-A-S-D keys)
Always on WASD. But I'm one of the lucky ones then - while I use the computer all day for my work, I don't type text, I type commands; one, two or three letter commands at the most. So I have my commands at work set at or close by to WASD so no worries here :D
