Out of the Comfort Zone and Into the Arena

Arena Queue

I'm not much of a PvPer. Sure, I play on a PvP realm. I hate the Horde (or Alliance, depending on which character I'm playing). I dabbled in battlegrounds. But in MMOs in general, I have never really gotten into the Player vs Player aspects of the game as much as I have the PvE ones. Over the past couple of weeks, I've had the chance to step into the arena for a few games each week and I can confirm that I am not an elite player in those situations.

Both in the 2v2 bracket and the 5v5 bracket, my teams have lost more games than we've won. So we need to get some more practice. That is beside the point, however. The past few weeks have given me a lot of useful experience as a healer (my chosen arena spec) as well as a lot of good times. The times we have won, though, have been a lot of fun. Even some of the losses were entertaining. And ultimately that's the point of WoW - to have fun.

After participating in a few arena matches, I feel like I've been missing out on a huge opportunity for fun in World of Warcraft just because I was afraid I might be bad. Well, I am bad. At least, I'm not as good as I wish I was. That's OK though, because with each match, I feel like I am getting better. I find problems with my game like focusing too much on what opponents are doing and not being aware of my teammates enough. That's a lot different from DPSing in most boss fights where maximizing DPS and staying out of fire/void zones/clouds is all I need to worry about. Of course, I have spent a lot more time facing bosses than I have in arenas, so it all feels like second nature now.

I used to avoid world events. Now I go out of my way to complete them. I used to rarely raid. Now I love fighting those skull level enemies. I was wary of stepping foot into arenas. Now I look forward to the virtual beat downs. Of course, all of those achievement points waiting for me to earn don't hurt. I wonder what other fun activities I've been missing out on in Azeroth. Any tips on where I should look next?

Get some premades going. Good fun those are, especially as a guild.

For Arena I still think the 3v3 scene is the "best", as in it has the balance of pace, especially for healers. 2v2 got murdered by WLK's burst damage and 5v5 take too long.

For fun stuff, maybe get the Totally Rad Guild(s) to launch raids into enemy cities. There are always a ton of shennanigans to pull off when you get into a city of the opposing faction, e.g. Orgrimmar fishing, kiting Battlemasters, traps, etc.

dude juggy gets yourself a warrior and start destroying!!!
i have been playing with my shaman friend ever since TBC came out.
its a good team because no one know the tactic against it, because it really rear, and you can kill every clother there is with WF totem.
so go fine your self a warrior and dont for get to go round the corner,
i also suggest to watch some athene clips.

Juggy. This may be because I'm a lil jealous, but looking at your armory, Id suggest taking a break from WoW; your far far far ahead of everyone in your guild, as well as in others^^

Now, for your question:
For PVP, the best way to learn it is by doing it a lot. You'll get it. For missed features, YES ROLEPLAYING.

Come on over to Earthen Ring. We could be buddies^^

@cocopuff: NO KIDDING? ¬¬'

@juggy: Yeah man, arenas are a whole different world, but I suggest that you do the 3v3 arena matches in the next patch, since there will be lots of advantages of doing so (3v3 and 5v5). Go 2v2 for now, get yourself a good rating and the itens you get for it, as well as some titles.

A good pair for shaman healers are warlocks (!)(in my opinion), warriors, Dks and Pallys. Hunters are not that good, but do the job well, you'll just have to move a little more. And there are always the lovely rogues and mages, that can dish out some serious dps while you're healing. But try to do a Warlock/Shaman, it's cool ;)

@adam I'm glad someone already mentioned roleplaying because that's what I was going to suggest. Also where @cocopuff was going with learning more about the lore. There are some awesome stories out there in the Warcraft universe. Plus it would help your roleplaying. :}

I can and will never get into the whole role playing thing. Some buddies wanted to switch servers (back in the day when you had to queue when logging on) to a RP server, and I said no thanks. I also haven't tried arena teams, cause, truthfully, I sort of suck as it is. :)

In regards to lore, this game has invigorated me to do something I havent done in well over 10 Years: Pick up a book. In the last 2 months I have finished the first 6 books and am nearly finished the 7th.
