Blizzard Franchises, Twitterpated

Can the awesomeness of Blizzard games be distilled into a scant 140 characters? The company's Licensing Project Manager, Kat Hunter, seems to think so. According to her own account, all three of Blizzard's core franchises are being given the Twitter treatment.

wartweetSo whether you're a fan of Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo, there's something for everyone. Or just add all three (hint: clicking the previous links take you straight to the games' respective Twitter pages)!  These accounts appear to be alternate news feeds for all of the latest Blizzard buzz. I'm willing to bet that they get quite the work out during Blizzcon.

And did someone say licensing? Considering Mrs. Hunter's involvement (and the pedigree of corporate Twitter accounts in general), I think we can expect to see plenty of posts about events, new merchandise, and promotional opportunities in addition to general news items.

So go ahead and add 'em. And while you're at it, why not follow Project Lore, as well? We provide a link to every new article as it's posted and it's a great way to keep up with our schedule of live streaming feeds.

So what do you think of this readers? Do you even use Twitter? Is this something useful and interesting to you? I don't think you can fault Blizzard for giving their fans options and the convenience factor can't be beat. Where else can you keep up on the latest WoW news and pretend like you're best buds with Ashton Kutcher at the same time? Wait... does Ashton Kutcher play Warcraft?

Seriously, I think it's useful. i use Twitter. More for personal things now instead of my blog. Linky in my name ... er ... y. And so far, my usefulness, I think it's more interactive then most twitter users.

So.... does this mean that the Diablo 3 website (for example) will never see updates and you have to "follow" on this "Twitter" thing or wait for 2nd-hand news to find out about new things?

...or what? I don't quite understand what this means, and never having used Twitter probably doesn't help much either.

Not at all. You'll still be able to find up-to-date news anywhere that you currently find it. This is just yet another way to get it.

Oh. okay... speaking of "up to date news" blizzard hasn't released anything of the sort for Diablo 3 in several months... not that anyone who cares doesn't already know, but, just thought I'd throw that in.

Though considering all the big new stuff for WoW, this doesn't surprise me much. Perhaps Blizzard is in a little over their heads? Working on 4 games at once (WoW, SC2, D3, "new MMO") can't be easy.

I don't use Twitter and never will, so this won't affect me in any way. :)
