Much Ado About Mounts

I’m not sure if it’s the recent holiday events, the new achievements system, or something that has been here all along, but it seems the whole world is going crazy about mounts. People want them, want to show them off, and are going to extremely lengths to get them.
The most obvious example is the holiday mounts. Groups of dedicated people are spending hours everyday farming the latest seasonal boss and hoping they will drop the latest mount. First it was the Kodo/Ram now it’s the Horseman mount. I’ll admit, I am one of them, and because I don’t have luck like Juggy, I imagine I will be in SM everyday for the rest of the event.
It doesn’t stop there however! It’s just the tip of the iceberg. With the new achievement system in place lots of folk in my guild have spent tons of gold and farmed tons of rep to buy every mount they can get their hands on. The goal is the 50 mount achievement, and yet another mount. (A very cool one, given).
While we are on the topic of achievements, the other reason the whole world is farming away inside SM this week is to make sure they get the squashling and the Hallowed title. Not a mount, I know, but guess what you get if you finish all the seasonal event achievements? You guessed it: another mount.
The problem actually predates the newest batch of content. People have been mount obsessed long before this. Rare mounts are certainly nothing new. On the extreme end, there is a friend of mine in my guild that has soloed Stratholme several times every day for the last few months. The reason is the Baron Mount. Rumor is that it is the lowest drop rate in the game, and from the stories I’ve heard I believe it. This is one for the truly dedicated, or truly insane (sorry, Feralface).
Then of course there is the Huntsman Mount, The White Hawkstrider, The Anzu Mount, The Ashes of Alar, The ZG Raptor and Tiger, and the now inaccessible Bear Mount.
While given mounts are really really cool, is it really worth all this time we put into farming them? The are (usually) cosmetic, they don’t improve our ability to down a boss. The are vanity items, but then again, perhaps that is their appeal. What about you? What lengths have you gone to to get a mount? Or are you just happy riding around on your boring faction mount?

The White Hawkstrider and
Horseman mount i want so bad
first woot :)
yeah ive notice ppl are mount happ
I have always wanted loads of mounts but these achivements have made me want even more!!!
Yes, I am f*cking nuts for running Strat all these times. However, I did make 5k gold in 8 days selling enchanting mats and BOE blues and got me epic flight form. When the Baron mount becomes mine, I will use it to hump the sh!t out of your puny warhorse, Mr. Bastosa.
Pokémounts?
Well, after yesterday's hour spent farming HH and killing him 10 times. Yes, 10. daily & quest for each member. All that dropped was the pet & the cloth helm. The rest of the drops was only 2 rings. Horsemans signate & witches band.
To say the least we were upset. I would have been happy with nearly anything else dropping at all, but 10 kills and the rings kept dropping (everyone had them) we couldn't even pick up the last 4.
I will probably get my five tries tonight, but I think I would rather rep gind for others or at least the Baron's mount after last nights utter dissapointment.
WoW, what have you done to me...
I'll admit it, though I am a Paladin I wouldn't mind getting Baron's Death Charger, Attumen's Midnight and The Headless' "runs in Azeroth, flies in Outland/Northrend" mount. Maybe even the motorcycle... <..>;; And I've begun working on vanity pets. I got my chicken from westfall and my sprite darter thing from Feralas. Need to work at the two from Searing Gorge.... Yeesh. I realized I have my work cut out for me until I'm 80!!! O.O!!!!!!!

Honestly I don't care THAT much about getting special mounts. Yeah it'd be cool if I can get one, but if I can't, I think I'll live. The only one I've seemed to care about is the horseman's mount, but running him everyday so far I haven't seen it drop once :-(. Maybe the strat mount would be cool to try for a couple times...
Well I am now farming for the mount. Of course no luck. I did get the pet trick or treating maybe the mount will drop out of a goodie bag also. I really dont see me getting the mount since I did not get the brewfest one. Good luck to all of you hunting the mount!!
only got 6 mounts yearh i know i would mutch rather spend time on getting gear that im gonna replace in 3 weeks then mounts that last a life time.
mayb i should start getting my prioritys in check and farm g just got tired of it after doing 16 dailys every day for 20 days but really want the hh mount just cuz you can get all the other mounts any time but hh mount (and sesonal achivement mount) is only a short period of time and its only 1 a year...
but in the end i still want all the mounts its kinda like bragin rights even though everybody els godt it and nice for a change getting tired of my charger witch looks like a armored unicorn from behind (trust me dont look as nice as it sounds) all i know is when wotlk comes i want my choppa
Well, see, I'm a dwarf pally with a racial ram. That's it. I like it, I've stuck with it, and it's fun. On the ground. Flying mounts are a different matter. I want the Ashes, of course, but until I can get absurdly lucky, I'll make do with the userandom macro and any flying mounts I can get my grabby dwarven hands on.
My mount collection started with me wanting to be exalted with Exodar. I wanted to have my gnome riding an elephant. It turned out that after questing I was nearly exalted with the other Alliance factions so I finished them off. I ground out exalted with some Outland factions because I like collecting tabards. When I saw that the Albino Drake was the reward for having 50 mounts I knew what I was going to spend my excess gold on.
It all comes down to what individual players want from the game. I have a friend who grinds the holiday bosses with me because he thinks the fights are fun. I like having him along because he could care less about the mounts and won't roll on them. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I think part of the reason everyone is freaking out about the mounts (and pets) right now is so that they can learn each mount/pet in addition to the achievement rewards, once they learn the mount/pet they can just drop the item from what I can tell, therefore they can get novelty mounts/pets and not waste bank space to do so
I'm getting tired of every other person asking me where I got my polar bear mount. Uh...can you not read the flag the murloc is holding? BlizzCon. Get with the program people.
The only mount I'm interested in is one that goes 280% faster than normal speed.
Rare or hard to get mounts just usually equal bragging rights or how effing lucky you got once, but most of them are just cosmetic.
I'd rather farm the gold for the mount that actually does something other than look different.
In the meantime, I'll stick with my swift hawkstrider and my basic Wyrvyn.
like many others I was happy with whatever mount I picked up along the way excluding the !!!Neitherdrake!!! (no brain'er must have!) but every tom di*k & harry has them now :o(.
Now that mounts wont be taking up my valuable bag space I may just take up farming these down in my down time.
mounts are like cars people want the have the best they can get. btw I love the much ado about mounts title my fav play :P
Lol ATM on my Ret pally i have gotten the horseman's mount The Kael H MgT hawkstrider, and the brewfest ram :P working my way up the ladder hehe funny thing is i never was ever grinding these items just wanted other stuff the bosses dropped lawl.
I don't really care for the special mounts. Sure, I did the brewfest boss daily during the entire run, but it was only for the remote. For this event, I'm actually trying for the mount because it actually looks wicked.
I'll be so glad when the bulk of the season events (brewfest, hallowed, thanksgiving, christmas) is all done with... @_@
Isn't looking good what in the end WoW is all about?
isn't grinding for a mount so different from grinding for armour or a new weapon?
Also they look really cool.
The mount achievement is pretty hard being a tauren. I have 39 mounts and I can get 2 more war pvp mounts and the 2 halaa mounts. I have exalted with orgrimmar so I have all the wolves. So for me to get the 50 achievement before wrath is nearly impossible. There is no point in getting rep with Undercity, Darkspear Trolls and Silvermoon. as I am too big to ride these mounts. Hopefully getting the reigns of HH will make the achievement a bit more possibile. Oh and I can get the cenarion hipogryph. If I could get exalted with one other faction it wouldn't be as hard but now I gotta grind out rare mount drops? lol forget that.
As someone that got into the whole speeder thing in SWG I can totally understand the mount obsession... thankfully I've yet to see a mount I NEEDED to have. But then again.. I'm too busy getting items I NEEDED to have.. so until then, I'm happy with my vendor mounts. :)
I'm not big on getting rare mounts, although I would certainly roll on one if I saw it. My big thing is PvP mounts. I have the horse, the ram, the tiger, and even the elekk. I feel like I worked to get them, not just got lucky with a droprate.
Well the Phoenix mount is just sick, who wouldn't want that?
