A Cold Shoulder From The Frost Mages

Okay, okay. Sorry. Geez... Stop your cryin' and belly achein' for crap sakes! All you frost mages who think I'm not showin you luv or that I'm bashing on you or your talent tree need to take a freakin' chill pill. Maybe you have a talent for that or something...

Yeah, yeah. I know. Frost mages can do damage and it's how you play your class and your spell sequence that determines your mana management and that a frost mage is incredibly effective against A'lar and... blah, blah, blah. Hush! listen up here peeps.

The point is this: fire mages still kick ass in raid situations. Period. I'm not saying frost or arcane can't kick ass. I'm just sayin fire mages kick ass.

Okay. The water elemental is nice in PvP and yes ice barrier is a very cool spell. I have seen some rockin' frost mages in AV kick the crap out of buckets of people with that frost nova and ice lance.

And yes, yes, I know that ice block was originally your talent tree and for that one I thank you.

But my whole point with talking about fire mages before is that some people have the misperception that only frost mages are good for raiding and end-game content. That is pure bull$hiT.

I certainly can, and I have seen other fire mages, decimate instances left and right, utterly destroying clusters of mobs with a few well-placed arcane blasts and dragon's breath.

But this is what get's me agitated: I've actually had people tell me that their guild doesn't want fire mages because they pull too much aggro or lack DPS or suck at killin raid bosses. What f'kn morons! Those issues are with the person playing the game, not the game itself. Got get Omen2 and Deadly Boss Mods to clear half of that crap up.

So once and for all, so as to quell this brewin storm twix fire, frost and arcane mages I may have inadvertently started, the real bottom line is this: we mages have CC, we have great DPS, we have remove curse, AI and can drop enough tables to feed an entire raid. Frost is great for PvP. Fire is great for PvE. Arcane can one shot just about anything their level. All are doable for killin mobs in BT, Hyjal and Sun Well and will continue to be in WotLK.

Face it: If you rolled a mage, people want your DPS.

Dude! Fire Mages out dps ice mages... the only reason ice mages are good are their stuns and chill effects...

Also Arcane is the BEST dps a mage can have (i could be wrong, i don't have a mage) but from what i've heard it is horribly mana ineffecient. Mages are NUKES, any tree will put them at the top of a raid.

to be honest im a frost mage and yes i was at one time a fire mage. u guys do have it better on the dps front what with fireball and pyroblast but frost mages, although we lack a small amount of dps we make that up in moves that keep us alive longer. I mean when i fire mage pulls agro in an instance or raid then the mobs can like 2hk u. but as a frost mage, having chill effects, frost nova and ice barrier and cold snap keeps all ur moves with no cd. so there are differences with fire and frost mages but the reality is we both KIK ASS...seriously

70 Alliance Mage: LoveTheHorde
(Soon to have 70 Hordey: ExoFrost)

Polonius is right about Arcane mages. When I pvp I am 41Frost/ rest Arcane. For Raiding I always Respec Arcane Frost (I have shadoweave Set for raids which increases Frost DMG). I sacrifice the ability "Slow" and "Frost armor" so I can get Icy Veins and have a POM Frostbolt. I know it sounds weird but Cast time alone you can get out twice as many frost bolts than Fireballs in a boss fight. You just have to have high enough Spell hit rating. I will be Top 5 DPS in the Raid every time.
For Gruuls, I stay PVP spec so I can tank that stupid ogre for the guild. Frost armor, Fire ward, spell steal, rinse repeat.

Fire/Frost: A fellow guildy has a Fire/Frost Hybrid. He puts enough points for Icy Veins and the rest goes in Fire. He is the only mage DPS competition I have when raiding and we fight over number one spot in raids. Our gear is pretty much the same (he has Spellfire set).

BOTH SPECS ARE GOOD. I prefer frost. When I pop all trinkets and Icy Veins and get Heroism and Spell DMG totem I have had Frost bolt Crits as high as 9.5k off a normal Mob. In SSC the Big Tree Pats have lower frost resistance and I have had Frost bolt crits as high as 17k and pull aggro off a tank with 2 misdirects lol (Thank God for Ice Block). In Kara whith that Spell buff from the beam on the Dragon boss I have seen Crits as high as 33k. This doesnt mean Fire doesnt have similar DPS. It's more gear specific.

Deep Fire > Deep Frost when it comes to DPS. But both pail in comparrison to Arcane/Frost or Arc/Fire or Fire/Frost Hybrids, these are what really pull the DPS up for mages.

On a side note; I wish I could have an Undead Gnome Mage.

This topic is one that comes up constantly on my guild forums. Is mages that beleive that frost is the way to go for end game content. While it is ideal for crowd control. I do hereby agree with Saint German. A sheep well still hold even if its not improved. A Fire/Arcane mix will out DPS any Frost Any Day of the week. ....In PVP im constantly posting ranks close to 2cd or 3rd place in total Damadge output the few that do Out DPS me are usually hunters and rogues just from what I have seen.
