Add-On Corner Part 1

First off I want to say "Thanks" to everyone for making the launch of Project Lore a successful one. The feedback has been great and I can't wait to move forward with building this community hand in hand with you all!

Now it's time for the first installment of Add-On Corner. I don't know about you but I can't live without my addons. The WoW UI is nice but man can you really tweak this game or what? We've been getting a lot of e-mails asking about my HUD in the show. So I'd like to talk about DHUD or Drathal's Hud. When I first installed this addon it was because I couldn't find a good combo point warning addon for WoW. As a rogue I wanted to have a quick reference for how many combo points I had accrued. Now I know there are little addons that just show balls floating in space but I needed something that was a little more clear. So I found this really interesting HUD that clearly showed the combo points right on the side of the enemy. I was not excited at first... weird tron like rings in the middle of the screen? But man after using it for a day I was hooked! It was amazing how nice it is to see such detailed information about you and your enemy right where you're looking anyway, at the thing you're killing. Now I will give you a few setup tips for this mod, take 'em or leave 'em, this is just how I think it works best.

1) In the "Layouts" tab set the option to have your info on one side and the targets info on the other. By default you have your health and the targets health on one side and your mana/rage/energy as well as the targets on the other. I found this way too confusing right out of the gate. You guys might like it so again take it or leave it.

2) On the "Misc" tab check the box for "Show Player Frame." I found it weird to not have my little icon in the top left corner. Also, when in a group the space is still there where your player frame would be but it's just blank... seems weird.

Well I hope you enjoy trying out DHUD. I know it's a radical change but I think you'll enjoy it once you give it a shot.

I'd like to know what the buffbar addon is that everyone seems to be using. It's awesome, and I don't think it's Elkano's BuffBars.

In my opinion this kind of addon is great. I use ArcHUD and i can't live without it. I don't have to watch the HP of the Boss/NPC i have to tank...and it show me when he casts and the cast time so i know when to pop my own heals (I am a druid tank and in case of emergency i can start my bear heals). X-Pearl Unit Frames show the same thing but they are at the top of the screen and i don't like to take my eyes off the boss when i am tanking. ArcHUD is in the middle of the screen and you can see right away if something happens...and you keep your eyes on the boss at all times.

Fizzbang,

It might be Carbonite. Carbonite draws a red line after your character as you run, haven't watched the video enough to see what you're talking about tho.

What I'm really interested in is what buff mod Dr.Dark is using with his HUD. Can't figure it out!

I never had, probably never will, use mods or addons of any kind. As Blizzard tweaks the basic UI, I find more features available (such as Threat %) that make less reason for using an addon.

Now I have been in "classic" raids (early as healer, later dps), as well as gruul's and mags. Been to Kara many times. Done countless heroics. Never felt the need for a mod. Plus on patch days my gameplay is unaffected. :)

I remember a day we were raiding AQ20 (pre-BC) and the guild I been in about 6 months found out the whole time I been healing without any mods. They asked "how is it possible you can raid without ", I replied simply "I pay attention".

For some reason the whole HUD idea appealed to me and the first one I had was DHud after I saw it on this show. But once Lich came out I wanted something that would be updated because it was only a matter of time that some aspect of the game would restrict DHUD. I've used a number of HUDs including ArcHud which is mentioned above quite a bit and the end all one ive come across is Ice Hud. It was released about the same time and is almost 100% customizable. I always like experimenting with different bars on the hud and wut not so Ice Hud is a great add on if ur looking into getting a HUD.

Hey DrDark what's up? i was looking around for the addon you have until i found this blog on your site. i was so happy about it until i discovered that your link is broke so you might want to update the link to DHUD2. Anyways i hope things go good for you when quest in Northrend and to the love of all rogues, i salute you.

Those are some great world of warcraft addons! I am currently using 3 out of those 5 with my character. I suggest that you guys read up on some of the guides for these addons as they can be hard to use. A good site to reference is http://www.hiddenstuff.com/ they have some good guides for world of warcraft.
