Recruit-a-Friend Woes

Love it or hate it, the Refer-a-Friend promotion seems to have been a big hit for Blizzard. I have numerous acquaintances that have either signed up, signed up a friend or signed up themselves. Surely, they must be getting very close to the 11 million mark with the new marketing scheme? The benefits – mainly the 300% experience gain, including quest XP – are so high that it made my close friend resubscribe just to level a Hunter for the first time. Seriously, he had no reason other than “it'll be easy.”
Seeing as I was his only remaining friend who still plays World of Warcraft on a regular basis, we decided to link our accounts. The free month will certainly be worth it so I figured what the heck. What harm can come of some saved money, and a new level 70 character? Or two. Lack of sleep, that's what.
My friend came over yesterday to watch the football games and we started questing while the Eagles trounced the Rams. Then the second game came on...and the third. It was 3:00 AM and I had to wake up in three hours to get ready for work. What the hell?
How did I let this happen again? The class may be new to me (never leveled a Priest all the way) but the game isn't. Why did I get sucked in again?
After thinking on it for awhile, I came up with a conclusion. The reason I got sucked in so entirely was because of the grind. With the new 300% XP bonus, I was burning through those first 30 levels so fast that the “I will just finish this level” mentality was able to remain viable for much longer than normal.
At this rate I should have a level 70 character in under five days played. That is being a little on the safe side since I am already level 30 with just about a day played. For those looking to get another character to 70 for Wrath, I highly recommend finding a friend to play with. Or just /follow on a second computer. The time you save on leveling is likely worth the two-month subscription fee and purchase of the battlechest.
You mount collectors will surely want the Zhevra. It is meh for me though.

1st... Woot!
Nice blog btw.
I will not be getting the zebra mount. I prefer the turtle mount :)
2nd :S
Damn.. non of my friends are left not playing WoW... could be a chance tho! but Damn it.. no one left that actually got a life outside Azeroth and Outlands!
Wow thats sweetgetting to lvl 30 so quick. I should recruit a friend....
If i had the money Id do Recruit a Friend =\
I hate what they did there, removing such an essential part of the game, the struggle to get to max lvl, the ups and downs in lvling, being tired of one char, playing to other for some time and then lvl your first one again. The 300% exp is bad,the free lvls is BLASTFEMYSM!!!
btw,they're already at 12million mark
I tried doing it like twice but it never worked for me. The E-mails would never send to the people or etc. Which sucks because I had high hopes for quick leveling characters... I hate leveling.
I'm completely new to World of Warcraft, and in fact, although I already thought I would like to try to game someday, when I stumbled upon this website I decided try it out the next day, and on Executus to boot. Anyways.. I saw the advertisement for the Recruit a Friend but decided not to get it because I enjoy going through the game at a normal pace, especially for my 1st character, or else I would just be a lvl 60 noob character who didn't know how to play his own character correctly (or, that's what I'd imagine would happen). I might do this with my brother (who is also new) once I get my 1st character up to 70, though.
So, although I don't really know much about the game yet, my end conclusion is: Although this might be great for people who have played through the game already, I think new players should play through their 1st character without it.
But that's just me, so don't flame me please. :) My brother is different and would rather get up to 60 asap.
I was one of the first to sign up for this new RAF [recruit a friend]
i refered myself, simply so i could make the refered account have 2 level 60s, so i can jump my preist from level 1 to 60 in about 30 seconds. i did this in the middle of stormwind, and i think i got reported for hacking about 30 times =/
but i was in a queue for wsg when i hit 10, and the queue was about 30 minutes, so i had time to get a mount learn moves and regear. now im telling you, that was the best wsg match ive ever had in the history of wow.
so now i have my 70 mage, and 6 level 60 characters spread between the 2 accounts. im debating weather to move them or not, or upgrade to TBC.
and on a side note, you do get ALOT of avuse frim reffering yourself, simply because ignorant people think multi-boxing is against the rules, but in fact its the opposite, blizzard ovbiously encourage it.
and having a brand new mount on your 70 in the middle of SW, haveing the attention is always nice ^^
if only there was a flying alternative :(
If i wasnt living in Denmark i'd recruit a friend
If you plan to transfer the new character to your existing account you don't need to get tBC. The 300% xp only lasts until lvl 60 anyway. ( plz correct me if i am wrong) :)
i cant find a friend which i can recruit...
sucks... :( :( :(
do the "friend" get a zhevra mount to?

WRONG. my main is TBC enabled, and the refered isnt. i can trasnfer from non-tbc to tbc, just not the other way round.

umm... i think that was exactly what he was going to do...(transferring from non-tbc to tbc) (and yes bonus exp lasts until 60)
So - I met these to guys, brothers. One decided to quit wow so the other brother took over the other account. He then told me that Blizzard allowed him to put his brother's character onto his own account - consolidating his toons.
Huh...
I wonder if Blizz has changed that rule because you could easily buy a second account, then ditch it after you've lvled and retain your characters on both.
Unless you want multiple accounts to duel-box - But I don't. Anyone else have some evidence about moving toons to another account? I'd hate to buy another box then level a toon and realize I couldn't do it.
I bought a new account and my fiance transferred his toon on it that was lvl 48 (as was one of my toons). We grouped, and it took about an hour per level with the bonus exp. As soon as we hit 58, we went to outlands. It was entertaining. The only problem is now that we arent leveling at that extreme rate, the game seems so slow, I almost dont want to keep leveling.
who needs a friend send me an email.
can i list may email ? alex_burcu@yahoo.com .
In 5 days with 300% experience bonus? Damn your slow thats my normal lvling time
