Lunar Festival Promises to be Full of Excitement/Boredom

It’s one of my favorite times of the year again, holiday time in Azeroth! This means one thing for me, tons of new achievements to do. I have just started them myself, but looking over the list it seems to me that this event is going to bring out some of the best and worst in WoW achievements. Many of them seem awesomely exciting, while even more of them seem mind numbingly boring.

Let me start with the good. The achievement to honor the elders in the opposing factions cities is great. It encourages world PvP, gives you a reason to go some places you rarely go, and gives you the impression of a really fun adventure. I am glad blizzard included this, and I am looking forward to charging into Orgrimmar. I think I may be even more excited to rack up my city defender by killing Horde trying to do the same.

Now the not so good… just about everything else. Sure seasonal bosses are cool, fireworks are cool, but I really don’t like feeling like I have to wander all over the old world finding random guys in random zones, and not even getting any gold for my time. I’ve wandered around these places plenty before, first to get explorer, then to trick or treat during Hallow’s End, now I’m back at it. In my eyes this is little more than a time sink.

I can’t say I’m particularly fond of having to run through a bunch of lowbie instances either. Sure doing some of the more current content is fun, but do I really need to go do ZF of Stratholme again (especially now that I’ve got my Baron Mount)?

My one piece of advice as you embark on this incredibly dull task would be to look at your other achievements and see if you can knock anything out at the same time. Are there  squirrels that need lovin’, pests that need controlin’, or zones that need explorin'? Now is the time to do them. If you have to do something boring you might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Just keep reminding yourself, this is all for the Violet Proto-Drake.

I find that most of the achievements are rather dumb. Some of them are defenetly worth it while others are only there to keep you on :P. 90% of the work events are in the latter part.

The only reason I'm even contemplating doing these is because of the mount. Personally I find wandering all over to talk to these elders very boring because as you said you don't really get any money or other rewards for them. Still I ran into a group killing Omen and did that quest for the nifty little lantern thingy, and guess we'll see if the rest peaks my interest.

I missed one Freakin' bucket at Halloween, and I was 'effing and blinding like a nub. Then I realized. It was the first festival of the year :)

Actually, it's all on the flip side for me. Running into the enemy cities is extremely boring for me, but then again...I'm not big on anything near PvP. All on Saturday morning, I knocked out atleast half of the achievements, or got credit for some in that day.

I find it hilarious though that they added Elders for Northrend, but there's NONE for Outland. XD

I kinda enjoyed to down Omen. :x Was hard as hell. ^^

The reason the Elders are in Northrend and the Old World, but not in Outland, is because these are the Elders of Azeroth. It's a festival regarding the history of Azeroth, and since Outlands is "another world", it isn't included in any way.

I've actually done every other achievements in the Lunar Festival section except half of the dungeons. It's actually not that boring if you know how to be prepared. Something to drink, something to listen and I even watched a movie at the same time. Since it's not like rocket science you just need to put a day of passive work into it and you're done.

This is my second time around for all the holidays, so they're not nearly as awesome as they were the first time. For Lunar Fest I knocked out every achievement except for the NR dungeon elders in a few hours.

I earned my Elder title on the very first day with ease and i have to say the funnest thing was running into IF on pvp into the elder with about 4 allies around and killing them all! (of course my friend helped me /wink) And then we left without a trace which was halarious. The secound fun thing was main tanking omen, because it was a raid. Although the others were boreing however i did get my World explorer title and tabard. So all and all luner feastival was ok nothing great nothing fun, no mount drops or anything so its just ok.

I actually like going around Azeroth to see some old haunts since it reminds me of where I've come from. Also, It's true that you don't get gold from the elders, but you do get +75 rep from each one. Stack up all those NPCs, and you've got a good amount of reputation going for you. Especially if you're on the brink of hitting exalted with a faction (I just need Undercity and Silvermoon for the Ambassador title).

Another plus is that some of the achievements for this event were already credited, such as killing Omen and honoring some elders. (I still have my Elune's Lantern from last year's Lunar Festival. :P)

After the frustrating Winter Veil event, I'm so glad to have the Lunar Festival arrive.

Actually it makes sense there are none for outland, they are the elders for azeroth and northrend although newly rediscovered is still part of azeroth

Even though i'm grinding out all the elders i have one thing to say, Why the hell are we honouring people who are stupid enough to wander into Utgarde Pinacle or Azjol Nerub and then stay there? You'd think that because they're so wise they'd stay out of there or stay near the door.

January 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKalcifer

Kalcifer, those are the emo elders who want to sit around moping how no one remembers them and how no one ever comes to see them.

Why else would the only way to get to them is through a secret passage that only opens when you kill a pollymorphic troll running a deathmatch ring and then run through a gauntlet of nasty gremlins only to find they have setup camp right outside an even larger nastier smellier one. People aren't gona just drop by for coffee and cake now are they?
