PTR 3.3: New Models Galore!

Patch 3.3 has been in the limelight the past couple days. With the Frozen Halls preview, patch notes, and PTR released in such a short period of time, there is an information overload!

First and foremost in my mind is the introduction of two new named weapons - Quel'Delar and Shadowmourne. Quel'delar seems to be a one-handed sword that is part of a long, epic quest chain involving Rhonin, Vereesa Windrunner, the Sunwell, and Icecrown Citadel. Shadowmourne is a legendary two-handed axe that drops from Arthas in place of Frostmourne, as Frostmourne has a "unique fate". Models for both of these weapons were data-mined by World of Raids:

Another change that has yet to be reflected in the Patch Notes are the addition of race-specific totem models for Shaman. The current models in patch 3.2 are the Horde model that seems to be Tauren-themed and the Alliance model which is Draenei-themed. In patch 3.3, all races that are capable of being Shaman get their own totem model. Tauren and Draeni seem to keep the current models, while Trolls, Orcs, and Dwarves (in preparation for Cataclysm) get their own models:

dwarf-totemsThe lack of Dwarf keg totems is saddening.

Other new models include Terenas Menethil II (Arthas' deceased father) and the ghost of Mr. Bigglesworth (Naxxramas was only a setback):

There are also a series of loading screens for the 5-mans and Icecrown Citadel available. Hop over to World of Raids to check them out. In-game maps for the 5-mans are also in the game.

Looks like there is a lot of development going into the art for this patch. Hopefully this patch will be a content-packed conclusion to Wrath of the Lich King!

i hope Quel' Delar is a tanking sword.....looks like an evil version of Quel' Serrar(or however u spell it) the 1 tht drops from ony.....also....thy should add a legendary tanking weap(no thunder fury does not count) as counting shadowmourne.....there r 2 2h melee dps weaps....3 1h melee dps weaps....casters got theirs in 40 man naxx.....hunters got the bow.....so i think its OUR turn

thats just it we got ours in 40 man naxx, which is the equivalent of thunderfuy a 60 lvl legendary and we cant get that staff anymore due to Naxx being moved.

So, this means that we will actually see or confront Terenas? This will be just awesome! I wonder what will become of Frostmourne...

@Krisnan

First legendary of Cata is a caster weapon. In due time castors will have their justice.....in due time.

@Dan
i am very glad to hear that and can't wait so long as its not a mace....sword or dagger and good to go

October 3, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKrisnan

All you Death knights get in line. This Fury warrior has his eye set on a pair of them big nasty axes.

I almost feel like the story is getting spoiled for me, but then again not like I was gonna make opening day though I SOOOO want to.

October 3, 2009 | Unregistered Commentergrandobsidian

@Grandobsidian

i'm with you on that one i'm gonna farm like mad to get two of thouse axes. i was hoping we would have a chance to get Frostmourne but then i remembered the story of it from warcraft III the axes will do.

but then after my warrior gets a pair then i'll grab one for my DK

all in all the next patch is going to be crazy

why would 3.3 conclude wrath. It has about another year before the next expansion. why would blizz leave another year for just ice crown citidal. they did release sunwell after the black temple and Illidan was the "end" of BC. i just couldnt believe that their would be no more patches before 4.0
i think maybe 3 more patches before the expansion. they may open stuff up like onyxia. well see but the end of wrath at 3.3 hard to believe.

October 4, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterkerthmuthar

@kerthmuthar The guys at Blizzard said that releasing Illidan with 2.1 was a mistake and they would make sure that the Lich King was the true end boss of the WotLK expansion. So I doubt there will me 3 more patches. More likely that there will be one or two tiny patches with like lore updates for cataclysm and more 'nostalgia' raids (maybe a lvl 80 Ahn'Quiraj?)

dammit. i'ma pally, and Quel Delar looks nice and all for a tank wep, and it jsut might be depending on how it goes, but i want ashbringer as a pally-only legendary. But that will require an even bigger quest chain invovling much of the new content. I mean warriors have a ton of legends they can use, pallies don't have many, most other classes have theirs. So why can't Ashbringer be one?

October 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJessiness

@ Jessiness
Because every legendary a warrior can use, a paladin can use, too (except the bow of which the name slipped).
And, there are even lesser chances now that Death Knights needs to be thought about too.

October 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLolmaster

Just want to make a quick point. That promised caster legendary can only be one of two types of weapon if they wish to include every dps caster; a dagger or a staff. I'd think dagger would end up being the best choice, as a caster shaman without a shield just looks silly.

Before anyone can say paladins can't use either, holy shock does not a dps caster make.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKagitaar

wow, orc shamans got screwed, they all look the same =/

October 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKyle

it sucks if that we dont get frostmourne
