Commonly Misspelled WoW Words

UPDATE:
Usually my posts get a dozen or so comments. Lo and behold when I logged in today to see over 30 angry comments on this post.
Project Lore represents a variety of players and backgrounds. Sometimes the difference between preaching to guildmates and writing posts vanishes in my mind and I realize I'm not talking to players who are exactly like me. The comments brought up many good points; some players are casual and haven't had time or care to learn all the jargon, while others are non-native English speakers or have speech disorders like dyslexia.
While I stand by the thesis of my post that communicating clearly with proper spelling and grammar will make you stand out in busy channels like Trade or LFG, the counter-response is well taken. Some players PUG people often and would rather get a group going as fast as possible than nitpick. Some players play on less populated servers and don't have the same type of Trade or LFG channels that are flooded with spam.
This is all true and I should have taken these things into account before publishing that post. I'll leave this post up for posterity, but I want everyone to understand that this is a rant stemming from personally dealing with novice players and wasting hours in instances from PUGing inexperienced players and this does not reflect on all of the writers or staff of Project Lore. I myself make spelling and grammar mistakes, and this post and many of my others are full of them. I leave the ones I found as is and highlight them to show that everyone makes mistakes, even when their message is carefully thought out.
Nothing makes you look more like a novice when desperately trying to PUG a heroic group than misspelling some simple words. Many players opt to leave the spam-ridden trade channel because there is little value in seeing statements like "LF Haels and tnak h occulus pst". If one cannot type simple four letter words, then many players will have doubts about that individual's ability to play effectively.
One of the most commonly misspelled words as of late is "dual". Many players talking about "dual wielding" or "dual specs" as "duel wielding" or "duel specs". A duel in WoW is a simple fight to the death between two players. Dual implies that there are two of something, namely weapons in your hands or specs that you switch between (ending a sentence with a preposition).
Another one that died out pretty early in WoW's lifespan but creeps up occasionally is rogue. If anyone is in trade looking for a "rouge" to open their lockbox, I would sooner ignore them than waste a hearthstone cooldown and my time going from Dalaran to Orgrimmar and back to help someone who doesn't take their time to proofread their sentences.
And while we are on the subject of Orgrimmar, note that there are two R's (three R's n00b!). The city is not "Ogrimmar" nor "Orgimmar". If someone is looking for an enchant in "ogrimmar" I do not know where to meet them, and I don't waste my time trying to speak with such an illiterate individual.
Everyone's least favorite dungeon, Oculus, is one that is difficult to PUG and misspelled more often than not. Note that there is one C. It is not "occulus". Occulus guards the Caverns of Time. Oculus is a dungeon located in Coldarra.
Now I know that everyone makes mistakes and there are some younger players who haven't yet developed their typing skills. However, the road to level 80 is long your first time through and you learn many things while leveling. You should learn common terminology well. People who correct their spelling with an asterisk gain a little bit of respect in my book, even though they further spam up my chatlog so I have to scroll around when looking back at other, more relevant messages. If I am about to spend 1-3 hours in a dungeon with 5 people I don't know, I'm not taking risks on someone who cannot spell simple words correctly. Stay alert!
What are your opinions? Have you found a good guild and left trade/general chat, or do you still revel in that cross-city chat?

Wow, it's sad that my first post had to be, "D-Bag!"
Wow dude, you just got PWND. I woulda kept this one to yourself bro. I know you've read enough hate posts for the day so Im not gonna continue with another, but if you judge people by the way they spell, then you are one arrogant prick. Its the goddamn internet. No One fuckin spells shytt right. I hope that someone finds out about a deep and dark secret about you that you want no one to know about so then you can get off ur high horse and see how stupid it is to judge ppl for something so little. Then you will be hopin no one will judge you for being gay.
or whatever your deep and dark secret may be...
(my bad)
I believe I see this post little different than most of flamers here. It's not about ignoring for one mistake. It's about ignoring for "LGF tnak an dsp", for misspelling most words, for being plain illiterate.
If you can't type five words correctly, I do not wish to be forced to read what you write. And I really couldn't care less if English is not your first language, or you got new keyboard, or you are dyslexic. It's not an excuse to roll your face on keyboard and expect rest of the world to decipher.
Spelling "rouge" instead of "rogue" makes me want to stab babies and seal cubs in the face though. With sharpened kittens. It's just five letters, what's so overwhelmingly difficult in that word?
ill admit, im dyslexic, and some mistakes. i have made lots of errors.Like gard and not guard, and the rouge is just a pain. so on that note, cut some slack.
on the offhand. i allso can agree. some people just not care to try and correct it. i try and correct what i can.there are people that just dont care about spelling and just put whatever thay want up. that should be changed. if everyone tryed. it would be a better trade chat for everyone.
I have to say I'm the same way.
Typically, I accept most mistakes as long as they are isolated occasions, and if I do something like this I'll be quick to correct it. But if I see strings of mis-spelled words, overuse of "l33tsp3@k," or even excessive swearing in normal talking (I can understand swearing if something goes wrong, but you should see some of the people I've had the misfortune of meeting), I'll tend to do anything from not taking them seriously to /ignoring them.
While I realise this may make me seem arrogant or an elitist, (or to put it in terms I'm more commonly hearing online "a goddamn fucking douchebag,") I just think if people aren't willing to take the time to pay attention to what they're saying or properly type something out, I can't trust them to help me to the best of their abilities.
The only thing I won't forgive someone for is misspelling lore names. I don't mean small things like getting Occulus and Oculus mixed up, I mean stuff like "Alextarza" or "Cairn" (He's a Tauren chieftain, not a pile of stones), or names of major cities. This is probably because I'm a lore nut to the point of being an encyclopedia for my friends, but I just don't like when people don't seem to pay attention to what they're saying.
Like I said earlier, small mistakes are fine, but most of the things I've seen are just people not caring at all
--There are probably errors in that post, but at least I take the time to try and correct any mistakes I see. Sorry that was so long.
I thought Rouge is how you spelled Rouge until someone told me that Rouge was make up then, i was like really then i Shift clicked their name and there it was plain as day Rogue, i thanked them then we went on playing normally with me being a little less ignorant, and you never people may just not know how to spell Rogue because they have never taken the time to notice or play the class.
People are dicks online because they can get away with it where they would get punched in the mouth if they did it in RL.
Man! People are offensive in here. He's just trying to say if you don't try to at least have good grammar, it often means you're not trying your best at other stuff too.Though, putting them on ignore right off the bat is indeed a bit extreme and definitely not making the bad attitude vibe that is haunting WoW any better...
Sure, people make spelling errors and don't see it right away, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to read your message before bashing on that enter-key. You're trying to communicate with the other(s), not do a game of "guess what I mean".
"He’s just trying to say if you don’t try to at least have good grammar, it often means you’re not trying your best at other stuff too.Though"
That is what's called a 'gross generalisation'
One of the smartest guys I know is also the worst speller I know (and possibly in the world). I'd say it's more the tone of the message than the spelling.
"LF1M heroic VH; roge or mage."
-vs-
"Wat is best profesen for shemen?"
if yo didnt like teh previous "angry" comments you got another one coming my first question is when do you want this term paper my sacond question is why do you care so much about the spelling wow is supostu be a fun game and you are ruining it by this gremmar shat ok if you cant under stand a damn thing the person is saying then its a diffrent story but if the person forgets a a latter or if puts to many or misplaces it or says naxx like nexx i think you can infer what they mean U :) :( LOL LMAO ROFL isnt proper english either but you still use these and my finnal question is do you really want us to threw god knows how many words checking for mistakes just because your to lazy and to dumb to infer what the person is saying infect if you like correcting so much corret wha the "illiterate" in my book i just lost a whole lot of respec for you
"If someone is looking for an enchant in “ogrimmar” I do not know where to meet them"
really? are you that much of an idiot?
I disagree with nearly EVERY single comment on this blog post.
I agree with Heartbourne.
Everything you say is usually how I act/respond to people who can not spell out simple 4 letter words. I know dyslexic people and they don't get N and K mixed up, they are just too lazy to go back and fix it. Takn =/= Tank last time I checked.
Everyone needs to realise people aren't the same, some people don't pay attention to you unless you have good spelling/grammar. I personally correct all of my friends/family if they say something that is not proper English. That's who I am and they don't care because I do it nearly every day.
Get off of Heartbourne's back and learn that some people take English more serious than others.
@Veritas
Read my above post. I am exactly like Heartbourne in real life. I correct nearly everyone I come across if they have bad grammar. I'll even point out bad spelling if they write something and I read it.
even though you do sound like a complete douche in that post i dont think your retarded anough not to understand simple errors i think your just trying to teach us a stupid lesson this is world of warcraft not the world of smart asses the place to get away from all the lessons and the problems to relax to release your stress but morrons like you are just adding to it you are ruining the game the only lessons we should learning is how to teach the lich king yogg-siron the horde or aliance depending on your fraction a lesson so stop whining if you want a diffrance in the world if you feal that is your duty to spread your wisdom across this world full of idiots why dont you take actions in the RL incase you didnt understand that cause you know its not a proper spelling RL=real life
I am probably one of the worst spellers in the game. Ask my guild, but the way i see it, if I can spell well enough to get my point across and for people to be able to understand what i mean then Hey, Whats the problem. I understand getting made at a mistake when posting a comment on the internet or writing a paper. You can easily go back and change what you typed with no rush to get you message off. However when I am in the game, I do rush to get my point of due to the fact that if not, my message will have no meaning, or people might think I am busier then what I am.
Why are you bashing Heartbourne? She/He (I think she) posts one bad post and you get all upset and try to make someone else feel bad... WTF. You don't end hate with more hate... I hope you feel better about yourself now. GL with RL
what i find quite funny is the fact that when ppl agree the first 3 post usually say.
First!.......................
for once there's a post that made ppl really think about what (and how it) was said.
And though i do not agree wholeheartedly with the tone of the Post i do myself get annoyed when people spam global channels. may annoyance gets even worse when ppl apperently think their post is important enough to post it 4 times per minute, but not important enough to check the spelling before using the macro they made.
and Yes Occulus isn;t as annoying as Nexx
Misspelled words hm?
Well I'm not going to lie, being the literate bastard I am, not to mention a role player and a writer, it's pretty annoying to see people speak as if they're fumbling over their keyboard.
HOWEVER, I myself have had plenty of times where I've spelt things completely wrong. Why? Simply because I'm trying to type a message fast while I'm doing something and my fingers slip up because of the speed of my typing. Do I fix it? Yes, generally I even add a joke about how stupid my brain is.
I can't say however that I've ever lashed out at anybody or ignored them just because they spelled something wrong, even if it's completely wrong like "Com 2 Ogrimar 4 nchant" (Also another pet peeve, the numbers and such, or single letters, for words). Sure, it annoys me, but I don't go "HEY YOU YOU SUCK! GO AWAY AND SPELL BETTER!" or "Wow fucking n00bish n00b of a n00b, god fucking n00b did I mention you're a n00b. N00B!".
1) Nothing happens. You insult someone who could have just made a simple mistake. Even if they didn't, you just basically insulted them. Don't you think humanity treats each other bad enough as it is?
2) You look like a dick to half the people there, so no groups for you? Possibly, but you still look like a jerk in front of people either way.
It's all around pointless and just deteriorates our culture more. Can't we just be civil with each other?
I mean really now. Over something like spelling? Jesus.
Srry but this is the WORST post EVER who gives a flying shit if some one is ooff by 1 vowell or consanent
(and yes i mispelled on pupoose)
: P
I really don't find spelling to be a particularly pressing issue as long as I get the point, I understand what they are trying to say. I understand when someone says "Nexx" that is confusing. However, when someone misses an "r" in Orgrimmar, who cares! If someone adds a c into Oculus (like the best healer in my guild) it doesn't mean that they can't do the instance. I can understand at least why you get high and mighty about people who you cant understand, although i just prefer to ask them if I care. What I don't understand is how you can get so angry at someone for adding and taking away letters that take away nothing from the meaning.
For the majority I completely agree with heartbourne, lay off him it's not unreasonable expectations of the english language. If you dont understand certain words "LFG,PUG,Naxx10/25,OS10/25, H.UK, H.UP. then ask? I dont have any problems explaining or helping some one out. I joined a group thinking it was naxx, but the person believed it was nexus... Dalvengyr is a retarded server, someone please save me.
G3t a l£fe for g0d sAke, so whut if peeps accIdently sp3LL wrong. Get over your self you idiot.
Unless something you are completely misunderstanding what someone is saying small typos are no big issue. most of the things you said are simply because of the way someone types. I've typed 'rouge' before because my right hand moves to the letters faster than my left as it's my dominant hand. So 'rouge' is an easy mistake, and yes more often do I see 'Occulus' than 'Oculus,' but that's because most people actually seem to think the name is 'Occulus' so your ignore list must be full. Most people that get as irritated as you apparently do about this are the people that flame trade chat and get on tens to hundred more ignore list because you're flaming the poor kid who made a typing error, and being an elitist jerk. I've seen hardcore raiding guild kick there main tanks and healers for flaming like that in trade. If your the guy flaming be happy your guild is still okay with you displaying there name under yours and representing them cause they obviously are getting a bad rep cause of 'that guy flaming the kid in trade for something so stupid.' You're probably on at least 20 ignore lists for every person on your, and probably well known on your server as that dick that gets ignored in trade.
