Proudmoore Pride Parade

proudmmoorepride09Earlier this year, we saw PETA launch their campaign in WoW against seal slaughtering. Now, The Spreading Taint guild and The Stonewall Family guild on the Proudmoore server are hosting their annual GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) pride celebration. This year, it should be even bigger than the past four years its been held.

The highlights of the event include a "pride march" from the Crossroads to Ratchet and onto Booty Bay. Players organize "floats", where are themed groups of players walk together. This year, "Spider Pride >8<" has been receiving a lot of attention. The winning float members get all sorts of prizes, including lots of vanity pets from The Spreading Taint's guild bank. Here's an idea of what you might see among the floats:

  • Bears in the Woods!

  • Willy Wonkers & the Chocolate Cake Factory

  • Spider Pride! >8<

  • The Real Houseboys of Silvermoon City

  • Gordok Ogre Float

  • Priests with Pom Poms

  • The Bunny Float

  • Proposition Taint

  • Proudmoore Divas

Other events include the "nude dueling tournament", where characters duel with no gear on, with a grand prize of a Mechano-hog. A "crafting fair" where everyone donates their profession skills to whoever needs them will be going on for much of the day, as will fashion shows and many other fun distractions. There will be a streaming radio station for everyone to tune into the day's events and appropriate music, and The Spreading Taint wants to invite everyone who decides to visit Proudmoore to join their "Tainter for Today" guild, which will allow visitors to interact with all the Taint guilds in their chat and join in on the fun.

If you want an idea of what its like, check out the videos from last year. Many people will be recording the days events, so keep an eye open for the videos!

Hope to see you there!

Is the comment above me really necessary? It's just proof that discrimination is still in full force, and why pride celebrations like this (in WoW and in real life) are still alive and necessary.

I considered making an alt on their server so I could join the guild as a way to show support, but I decided my inactivity on that alt would make that pointless. Either way, the guild and the group they represent have my full support.

The walk always looks fun, I might create an alt just to see it live (if my comp could handle it, that is! Lags in Dalaran are still an issue for me)

Sidenote: glad to see the comment above me was deleted. Way to go, Project Lore. :)

Is proudmoore a pvp server >:)

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermabus

My server never has things like this. :(

I still think this is cool, but comparing it to PETA is sort of comparing it apples to oranges.

PETA came into WoW to hold an event and left.

This is an established WoW guild holding an annual event.

While both are expressing ideals, this guild isn't a foreign entity jumping into WoW and leaving to spread their message.

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGene

That and PETA is just silly :-D
But yeah good for them holding an event like this every year. I'm sure it takes a lot of effort on their part to make everything work, and I hope they have another successful year of doing this.

yay, i really wanna make an alt on there so i can see this

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterStevo

If you guys want to make alts, we will be able to summon and escort you. We want everyone to be able to participate!

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHeartbourne

this would be cool if this was on a pvp server. id go to this but i dont wanna create another alt, i have too many alts already begging for copper in the streets of stormwind.

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAtlas

Ooookay! Maybe I'll make an alt just to see this! The effort this guilds put on this parade are unbelievable! And, by the way, that ">8< Spider Pride" post in the blizz forums were FTW!

looks like a complete waste of time.. jumping around booty bay in color'd tops :/

i have no problems with a guild like this existing and flourishing, and even being celebrated. this activity sounds like a good tradition for such a guild and the server.

i however do have a problem that my guild that celebrated my personal preferences was banned and renamed by Blizzard.

double standards ftl

ima roll a male bloodelf priest for this

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterConxcore

Me thinks I will call my friends together and roll for this. I always miss the Lansing Pride Parade.

@Blightear

Yeah, political correctness does suck.

June 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlayea

Wow ive gotta admit this is truely amazing. Having been to many Londoon and Brighton pride parades i cant quite belive the response of this. A gay pride march on WoW nice one. nothing like it on my servers but oh well. But it looks like alot of fun :D

June 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRyac

Ever heard of IP blocking????

Really cool that people do this kind of thing even in WOW. I live in the uk so I will have to wait for the youtube vids. Sounds like a lot of fun for all though, wish I could be there.

hope it gose well!

all im going to say is:

lol

June 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterEllendii

funny you talk of discrimination but not one of these are discrimitive now is that because you all are just such saints you held your tongue or PL deleted any discrimitive comments i been reading your comments and you are no saints and why would you feel the need to hold your tongue it might be because your a good person or because the comment probably wont be seen and the once that are seen goitno have 100 comets critizing them so much for freedom of speech my point is that outside real life problems like religion sexualality should be kept out of this game

June 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercocopuff

i have idea iamgointo time how long it will take for PL to remove my last post anyone care to place a bet

June 22, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercocopuff

Good for them! There is enough hate in the world, who wants to encounter in in the world of warcraft?! Hope you all had a good time!

June 22, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDulica

@cocopuff
There's expressing an opinion and there's using crude, hurtful and foul language just to be a jerk.
you feel religion, sexuality and similar issues (politics perhaps?) shouldn't be part of the game. You said it without using derogatory slang. I don't see PL pulling your post.

As for this topic? I think it's neat that there is such a large collection/following of people with no fear to express who they are in a video game world. Blizz does hold a double standard because I guarantee any other controversial or offensive group would be guild name changed or broken up by Devs, despite "Freedom of Speech" (Try to imagine a Klu Klux Klan guild)
