I have to admit, after a long time of Blizzard seemingly not doing anything about the proposed Warcraft movie, I was quite surprised when this news popped up last night on MMO-Champion. I have to agree that Mr. Sam Raimi is a good choice. Although Spiderman 3 was a flub despite its box-office earnings, I can assure you that Blizzard could've done a lot worse: Michael Bay & Transformers, anyone?

AWESOME!!! ALL I CAN SAY, IS AWESOME.

Yet another move to add to my "must see list". I had no idea they were considering making a Warcraft movie.

Movies on said list so far:

The Elfstones of Shannara (based on a novel by Terry Brooks)

and now Warcraft.

i just hope it can get past other movies made from book/games and can live up to the hype.

Regardless of how you feel over all about Lord of the Rings Movies the bar that was set for that type of film I don't think has been touched. Granted it had the $$ to do it, I feel there is a really good chance that the Warcraft movie to do well if they can just use that as a stepping stone. Nothing cheesy (even if you feel LotR is/was). Stick to the lore of the game and get the actors into it. That is where a lot of the fantasy movies fall is that the actor feels the movie is a joke and it kills its #1 fan base.

GL Raimi, heres to hoping you don't pull too much threat from the WoW community.

Now Metzen just needs to write an epic script or modify Warcraft 1-3 into one ass kicking pile of awesomeness.

all i can say is, ITS ABOUT FREAKING TIME!!!

They movie wil probaly reveal new stories about wow
and will reveal new upcoming contents
maybe we can c what happening in ICC

as long as the movie is nothing like any of the Duengeon and Dragon movies we should be good.

hopefully the movie will explain the lore of WoW cuase i can't stand reading those long pages and pages of text on WoW webiste.

A warcraft movie?! Freaking Awesome!!! As long as they don't take any "creative liberties" with the lore, the actors actually know the game, and it DOES NOT resemble the Dungeons and Dragons movie in any way, shape, or form, then the Warcraft movie should be pretty good.

Hey this is great news. The lore of the World of Warcraft is huge.

I hope they plan to make a trilogy because it makes absolute sense. One for each expansion of the game. And finishing with the demise of Prince Arthas will create an amazing experience for sure...

Sam Raimi is a good choice because as it says in this article he likes the game. And that´s the first step to be into the movie. Now we need good actors all around not just the principal ones. No famous faces like they did in Lord of THe Rings...

Lets hope they will make the right choices...

Live action though ?!? Hope he doesn't screw up like in the DBZ movie :(

Great! He's one of the better directors out there! Great job! As for the actors, personally, I think the lesser known actors do the better job. Now, here are some facts confirmed about the movie for you all:

1) No release date has been announced.

2) Chris Metzen is writing the script.

3) The movie is set 1yr before original WoW

4) Movie is Alliance perspective and main character is a BRAND NEW, ENTIRELY UNKNOWN Human character.

5) Horde faces will appear, such as Thrall and Cairne

6) Arthas and other modern day villians are unlikely to appear.

7) Movie is live action

It would be awesome if they got WETA Workshop involved with the whole design of costumes and weapons. I loved their work on LOTR and I think they could add a authentic look that very few people can pull off.

ARMY of frickin DARKNESS - Now I want Bruce Campbell in the part of Thrall and its a guaranteed blockbuster!

There is so much potential here it is scary. So many spotlights in the lore can be rendered on the silver screen.

I'm assuming the history of Azeroth will take center stage, seeing as the major players in the most recent events in the Warcraft universe are, us, the players themselves.

Hopefully, we'll see the lore and scope of World of Warcraft and the pitch battles of the Warcraft RTS realized on the big screen.

Wow. They would have to rename this movie McEpic Sauce if Weta Workshop got involved with the making of this. That would be SO FREAKING AWESOME!

If the story is set a year before the original WoW, then it is likely things like the first appearance of the Horde, the fall of the kingdom of Lordareon and Arthas's invasion with the Scourge will be part of back story, meaning Lich King's asleep on his throne, the Horde and Alliance are likely still going through conflict, and this might cover either how the two factions came to their 'truce' and such. All I can say, they'd better get some primo awesome actors and actresses to play Thrall, Cairne, Jaina Proudmoor, King Varien, and the other important people mentioned in the game.

i hope its not like the dragon ball movie i didnt even taht movie eactualy based on teh cartonn dragon balls untill i saw it the characters have so resemblance to teh original giving they could exactly alike but couldent put some effort into it i hope this guy puts some effort into it atleast get the costumes right and please no modifications to teh lore its fine the way it is what i allso wanted see as a movie is the war of ancients infect i would like for blizzard oto start from teh very beginning when the titans created azeroth apointted sargeras as their guardian of the worlds they create him going nuts and deciding to fix the mistakes of the titans by destroying their work, founding the burning legion appearing to the three leaders of the former drenei velen and his people fleeing the burning legion for thousands of years untill finnaly settling on dreanor kil'jaeden finding them adnd turning the neighbor orcs and blood hungry beast convinced taht the drenei are ploting agaisnt am first invasion of he burning lklegion the corruption of the once mighty blood elfs illdians tale would make for a hell of a movie the great sunddering taht would be epic tahts one movie the sacond movie second invasion of the burning and first war openingof the dark portal thats a sacond movie teh 2d war teh third movie and the 3rd war the 4th movie i guess teh can allso do the nexus war but that technicly has not ended yat tehn their are lose bits like variens history which technicly happen durring wow time if anyoen can renember before WOTLK variens son anduin was whear teh king is now now anduin is running running around but it would be epic to see those four 4 events live on a big screen i allso wonder how far apart is this movie and the expenchion going to be imagine releasing on the same day they are going to be set for 10 lives i am very easy to please when it comes to movies so i am sure this will be great i for one thought that the spider ,aman movie was great but guessing they are stoping that which seems to be the magi number for many movies with sequals underworld, pirates of caribean, spiderman some other i cnat recall thenames of anyway i hope this one isnt like tthat
