How Are You Spending the Downtime?

It seems like the entire world (of Warcraft) has gone into a bit of a holding pattern lately. Many people (myself included) have stopped raiding, we just heard about the arena points reset, so there is not a whole left for anyone to do other than count the days until November 13th.

While I am very much in the same boat, like hell I'm going to stop playing the game! So I have been trying to find a few activities to keeping me going.

In the short term, I have been spending my days grinding the Kodo mount for Brewfest. I have over 200 kills and still have yet to see the thing drop, I'm beginning to suspect the cake is a lie. I imagine I will get it eventually, and if not, Brewfest will ultimately come to an end. Soon I will be looking for other alternatives.

I have been trying to stay positive and look at this as a good excuse to catch up on those things I have always been meaning to do. I'm talking about all those projects I have always meant to get around to, but never did because I was busy raiding. Here is my list of things I think I will finally be able take a shot at:

Netherwing - I want to finally grind out the Netherwing Dailies, and get my nether drake. Although I must admit, with all the new mounts on the horizon, my desire here is waning a bit.

Fishing / Cooking - I have played around with the idea of leveling my fishing and cooking. It seems like a good way to make some cash and be able to make all that tasty raid food.  Problem is I hate fishing, so I guess this one is just a matter of how bored I get.

Farming Gold - The last thing I could even thing to do on my main is stockpile gold. Certainly not a bad approach, but I question what is going to happen to the WoW economy, and if this will pay off in the long run.

Alts - I have a Rogue that is closing in on 70 fast, and want to make her a priority. I have a few others sitting in 60 range that I may have time to get up there as well.

New Professions - With the prices on the AH falling through the floor (at least on Executus), this isn't a bad time to powerlevel a new profession on one of my alts, and I've always wanted to try Jewelcrafting. For some it may be a good time to push to 375 on your main.

Roll Horde - I've always wondered how the other half lives.

I'm sure there are lots of other worthy projects that would be worth taking on during this time. So tell me, what are you guys doing?  Have you come up with a productive way to spend your WoW time? Please don't tell me you are still raiding... I may become incredibly jealous.

Farming gold for my epic flying...no I still don't have it yet. (Don't laugh!)

I've finally started leveling an alt. All I do with my main is raid and farm to replace the consumables I use (I am self-sufficient w/ alchemy). It turns out that enhancement shaman are a blast to level.

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKale

things i do while w8ing for wotlk:

grind money (can allway use money)

get better gear (no point i know but its nice just to have)

do raids/heroic (for dailys/money and badges, why badges, cuz they can be traded for thing you can sell on ah for money)

get stuff for my prof since they raises it then you got some of it to train skill fast at the beginning

and finaly (witch is a GR8 IDEA) find a lot of lvl 70 quest and completing them, so that when the exp comes out i can get exp fast for 25 lvl 70 quest all i need to do is turn them in and i get a headstart

That is correct, the honor reset was well.. reset. Creating more work for me.

As for downtime, I'm taking a break from the game and have been inactive for about a month in preparation for the expansion. Mainly to make the expansion even more of a new experience for me.

However I have myself a fun little project I'm in the works of doing once I am back and the expansion is out.

I just hit exhalted with the Kurnai (nagrand area, i cant spell it right now) so i could get the talbuk. Im working on rep with other factions so I can get there mounts for the mount achievements. Handing in cloth is soooo easy to do now and easy to get. I had thousands stockpiled of every kind. So much that I got to revered in Exador and leveled my mage alt to 365 tailoring.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

oh and i dont have the epic flying mount for outland (i have this stange desire to use all the money before i get 5k) im a holy pala so i cant really grind that mutch.

and dont wanna waste 5k when it only work in outland and not the other places so why get a epic mount for outland when you can get one in the exp and then get for outland after that. correct me if im wrong but the mount is only doing to work in outland right aint the new mount first when you get to lvl 77 or something like that

I wrote this before news of the honor reset broke last night... unfortunately there was just a bit of a posting delay.

Even so, I question if grinding honor is a productive use of time. Bornakk said "those rewards will be significantly more expensive than their level 70 counterparts."

It makes me think even a fully banked 75k would only be worth one or two items at 80. There are probably more productive things we could be doing.

Well, hate to make you jealous, but we are still raiding.

I'm in a casual, laidback guild. We just hit Kara this summer, and are just heading into Gruul's & Mag's with a guild alliance now.

We've also taken a break from that this month to get guildies attuned for some last minute stabs at Naxxramas the Original so we can all get a peek before it's gone.

We're also running UBRS to get people their Onyxia attunement before that disappears. You know what? At 70, UBRS is FUN!!!!!

Once we have everyone attuned, we'll plan a guild assault on Onyxia.

There's no way we'll see Black Temple or Sunwell before Wrath hits, but we still want to see as much new content as possible before it's time to level again.

So, between hitting the 25 mans for the first time, and the old pre-BC for the last time, we are busy busy busy.

Cheers!

finally levelling my lockpicking skill...talk about tedious.
- Open 2 SM doors
- go inside and pickpocket 2 mobs
- rinse & repeat
- after 3 times, reset instance so i dont have to go in so far

Are you kidding me? Now I have to go back to BRD and open doors? I thought I was done with that place forever!

I plan to complete my lifelong goal of creating an entire guild full of Level 1 Gnomes, and then amassing them, in nothing but their skivvies, at every major city in Azeroth for one glorious, glorious bloody revolution.

Also I want a pony.

well i cant play till i leave school which is next may however if i was still playing i would be doing all the brewfest stuff on my 70 gnome mage and lvling my undead lock and be priest and rolling a tauren druid (something ive always wanted to do)

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterScott

@ jeley

I just did the exact same thing on my Rogue! It has been a major chore, but it is always so embarrassing to be in a run and unable to pick the chests... I wish LP would just scale with level.

Maybe I'll see you in BRD. :)

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBastosa

Well, I just got back into the game about a month ago so there's still plenty to do.. Leveling an orc warrior, at 61 right now.

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermonkeystick

"Roll Horde - I’ve always wondered how the other half lives."

Better than you.

I plan to stockpile gold. Also fill up my bank toons guild bank with mats; ore, enchants, herbs, cloth, etc. In preparations for an unknown future!

The same here in my guild. Raiding no more. :( But that have left me with a lot of free time for my pet projekts. At this very minutte i am on my way to Dire maul, on my Kodo mount (Human palla) The turn in the last book and become exalted with Shen dralar. Yes i am a rep geek ;)

Just been checking out games that I've neglected as well as new ones that's come about as I know WotLK will reclaim me to WoW once it comes out.

but as always..TRG ftw! :)

To be honest, I'm going to keep at raiding with hopes of at the least being able to see Zul'Aman and Gruul's and with some Luck (Ha not likely!) Hyjal. I'd still like to get my Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian & Inscribed Legplates of the Aldor If possible. The hard part for me is keeping everyone (including myself) focused. After that, if it looks like I've hit a lull... maybe I'll go raid Orgrimmar for fun. (haha another fun trap I just walked into!) Hordie: "Look at that noob, he's trying to raid Orgrimmar!"

The AH pirces have gone crazy on my server. Things that used to be expensive are now cheap and cheap are now expensive items are now cheap go figure. So I have been grinding rep and doing dailies. My plan till the wrath hits.
Also what is with "The cake is a lie"? I missed that inside joke. Lots of players in the BGs have been saying it. Please if anyone could explain it!

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRedaurora

Play Warhammer online, like everyone else.

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterGrido

Yea, I've been farming the Brewfest Boss for the mount as well. Epic level 70 items are fine, but a mount you can only get once every two years? priceless. I won the damn kodo on the 172nd run, it was the 6th time the kodo dropped for me.

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKevin Kline

I made a horde character, instantly cured my boredm.

October 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNaasuk

Yor are Lucky to have AH prices drop, on my server it rising for no good reason and there is not enough stuff being put on it.
