Still Digging the Achievement System

Unless you are living under a rock, you are undoubtedly familiar with the new achievement system Blizzard added with the latest expansion.

I’ve touched on how much I enjoy the new system before, but I wanted to take a moment and dive a little deeper into it.

I think it is no secret how much I like achievements, a lot. I am currently sitting at #2 in our guild for overall achievement points behind a certain draenei shaman who will remain nameless. During the lull between 3.0.2 and Wrath I really dove deep into these achievements, exploring the lands, running lowbie dungeons, and doing everything I could to knock them off my list while there was nothing better to do.

Now that I have progressed past the initial stages of Wrath I am finding that they are filling a new void and giving me something else to go after.

Now that I have finished all of the level 80 dungeons on regular and heroic, other than farming badges, there would typically be little reason to go back. Now I am finding myself wanting to run them over and over again, hoping that I can knock off some of those special achievements off the list during the boss achievements. I am finding myself responding to people asking me to tank with “only if we go after all the achievements.” Typically the response is “of course!”

Some of the achievements I have recently knocked of are Lodi Dodi We Loves the Skadi, Intense Cold, and Chaos Theory. I am trying to figure out where to go next, to me the achievements in AzN seem tough, but I like a challenge and think I will be trying for those next!

It seems lots of people are really digging these new goals inside of our heroics. I know I can list a few personal faves. What about you, are you enjoying the new carrots? Or do you see them as just another time sink? Which ones have you got, and which ones seem impossible?

yeah i love them too. racing friends to get titles. it will take me a while to get the mount, but that is one of the coolest ones.

i need to go back and do a few low level instances, just to get them off of the board.

I take it a particular shammy is besting you in your quest to do them all, lol.

the concept seems epic and gaining achievements has been fun... but i am extremely disappointed there is now apparent reward system for completing certain achievements. what rewards already exist and what do you guys think should be implemented to the achievements system???

I think, the whole Achievement System was a great idea. It really gives people a lot more 2 do then before the release of Wotlk: other then the usuall rep farming for different factions, farming mats for professions, farming badges, or doing instances/raids, u got a lot of other things 2 do and realy some of them are a lot of fun. Some are a bit silly imo, but there are some that are a real challange and, in that other Blog topic where 1 of the other PL dudes asked if its good or not 2 be able 2 check other peeps achievements, well imo its usefull, since it gives u an idea of where the certain person is at whit his achievements, and lets say the person got tons like Juggy, it sorta motivates u 2 do better then before.

I am four areas away from getting my explorer title. Yes it was a boring grind most days but by doing one or two areas a day it goes through pretty quickly. To me the achievements appeal cos i'm not much of a raider or a pvper but i love obsessively collecting stuff. There is so much fun to be had running about trying to show your love to the critters of azeroth.

I enjoy achievements. Being a PvP fan, I'm attempting to get myself some nice little PvP achievements. Unfortunately, with the lack of 80s queues are long and annoying(unless you wanna play Strand of the Ancients)... at least in my battlegroup. I will admit though I managed to score 3 Arathi Basin achievements at once last night.

However, one of the achievements I had to get done pre-80 was 'World Explorer'. I felt I had to get that sucker no matter what. But there are so many more to get and sometimes its a nice surprise to get an achievement you're not expecting.

The only achievements I really want to get are the World Event Titles. Since I got "The Hallowed" title I thought I may as well get the rest since it will be fun.

I just wish there were more tangible rewards for the achievements. Some of them have tabards and pets. The others just seem pointless to me. I mean, if you dont get anything from it, whats the point?

Out of sheer boredom of being a level 80?

I like the exploration achievements. I'm only level 55, but have already explored all of Kalimdor. I'd have Eastern Kingdoms if it wasn't for that stupid Isle.

Currently I run with the Hand of A'dal title. I kinda like it and it helps to get into pug heroics.

Second favorite right now is Ambassador - just kinda feels regal and seems to fit the name.

But I tell you what, in a month or so, after i cook 15 more recipes, I will be known as Chef SaintGermain.

Chaos Theory was kinda intense! :D I love this achievement stuff. :)

The "Gotta go" Achievement should be the toughest...heard about people going there with 4 dps and a tank that does decent damage :/

Intense cold is like almost impossible i think for any class who cannot clease, or debuff the ice nova, ive only done the instance twice on heroic, not sure if theres a way to avoid it though

To lead off of others here, the achievements are the perfect implement to keep people grinding hours into the game. It's not only fun but it makes the game go by faster b/c you're spending more time to work on your toons skills and exploring.

Sure theirs some that are just like 'huh' in there, but those are the ones that people over look, all the little furry critters you have to love, but pass up. Just the other night I caught myself showing a spider love, and I don't even like spiders... goes to show, WoW will bring a diff. side out of you.

I agree with David with my disappointment in the Achievements System not rewarding you. Even if it was Gold I think people would be happy. Say you have a percentage bar for your Achievement System, and for every 10% you get a certain margin of Gold. Once you reach 100% (which we know would take a while) you'd get a special Blizzard Mount or something. Or even, use the achievement points to transfer to Honor points, making people grind them hours to get more Honor points. These are just some ideas, but there is many different ways the system could have been used rather than just a time filler.

nylow, what do you mean ''the mount''? there are loads of differant mounts attainable from the achievment system: black way bear, all the proto drakes, well thats it but its more than one.

December 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDragoro

Im one of those crazy/mad/maniac achievers. I can't explain it, but I just get the amazing sensation when I get an achievement. While I'm going to set leveling (still haven't started on wrath...dam) as my top priority, I when I do get bored or have some spare time I will definetly go after some points.

By the way, I heard the WoW anniversary achievement is still reachable if you log in before New Year, is this true?

December 9, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRugi

IT was actually 6 acheivments in all, but going after Thrall. Lady Sylvanis, and the other two in the major cities was great. I got all 4 kills, plus the Acheivment for killing them all (which gives you an awesome mount) and I got my 5 kills in each city!

This was epic, I recomend you all try to get a raid group together and do it.

I was already set on world exploration for my main and hunter alt before the achievement system was even announced, but it definitely made the experience sweeter when I finally mapped everything.

Also, it has very much motivated me to farm the rep dailies like crazy. If things keep up at the same rate, I'll soon be able to claim the "10 exalted" achievement. :D
