Pre-Wrath Patch Glee

The Lich King on his throne

During the late afternoon yesterday it came out that we World of Warcrafters would be receiving one more content patch before the release of Wrath of the Lich King. This isn't that unexpected as Blizzard Entertainment did the same thing shortly before the launch of The Burning Crusade. Blizzard Poster Eyonix updated us with information on the patch that is meant to bridge the upcoming content changes. Here are the highlights:

  • New class spells and talents

  • Stormwind Harbor

  • Barbershops in capital cities

  • Zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades

  • Two brand-new Arenas featuring challenging new layouts, terrain hazards, and moving obstacles

  • Guild calendar

  • New profession: Inscription

  • Hunter pet skill revamp

Eyonix was quick to point out that the above list is simply highlights, nothing more. The flapping dragon mentions that the patch notes will be out as soon as they are available. Also of interest to some will be the addition of the Inscription profession. Blizzard will not be limiting the new profession to just purchasers of Wrath. Any owner of The Burning Crusade will be able to select Inscription as one of their professions with a max training level of 375. Those with Wrath installed will be able to train Inscription, and other professions, beyond 375.

Inscription doesn't have me that excited to be honest.  But that is because I simply do not want to train another profession.  I will likely just remain as a consumer of the new profession rather than a producer.  What does have me excited is the changes to Stormwind.  I hope that Blizzard makes the changes slowly, progressing the addition as Wrath approaches.  If done correctly, the process should make the city feel more alive.

Last but not least, Arenas with environmental hazards and obstacles?  Awesome.  What has you guys hot and bothered?

I agree about inscription, i'll just get it on my DK, so i don't have to change my main's professions

What im realy excited about is the barber shop, i mean who doesnt want to change ther main character who they have for such a long time (and kinda randomly clicked the hair types and colours that dont match at all just so you could play on your first day)

I'm confused. Aren't there zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades already?

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterEcco

Same question as Ecco ^

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJules

Yes but I believe there is a new zepplin tower going on the left side of the Orgimmar gate?

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterConahh

i think it may just be either on the other side of each city or going to a different location like somewhere in northrend maybe

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkevin

I think they should make a new pvp bg faction so we don't have to deal with the same av, ab, wsg, eots rotation we can try something with flying mounts? that would be really fun

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAquavendor

I don't pvp MUCH, but I do agree with Aquavendor. Before I visited it, I thought EotS WAS with flying mounts... it's a shame they didn't do that.

I'm also looking forward to Stormwind Harbor.. though... they really should have given the boat link for Northrend to Darnasus... why do they keep making this poor city more and more useless? Instance zoning between continents aside - Darnasus would be the easiest route to Northrend.

I cant wait i want a death knight but i dont want to sacrafice a character.

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJosh

I'll probably train up one of my toons with inscription just to check it out... possibly a DK. I've been thinking about dropping Enchanting - such a boring prof. :)

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJT

There's also the BIG rumor that Orgrimmar is getting razed. Yes. Burned.

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterZaffe

I agree with Adrale about the Darnasus situation, but the same thing is happening with silvermoon as well. so it is even I guess?

August 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJosh

Reply for Josh:

Hey Buddy Yo don't have to "Sacrifice" a toon of lvl 55 or higher to have a Death Knight. You only have to have a lvl 55 toon or higher on your entire account to create one. I've read up on it.

Reply for Ecco

Yes There are already Zep Towers in both Durotar and Tirisfal Glades. They've added a tower north of the Current one for Tirisfal Glades, and, there is one the the Right as you exit Orgrimmar.

NEW SKILLS NOM NOM NOM

August 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTran

For some strange reason, I am looking forward to shared mounts! - Lets watch the world pass by together! Also, I want to say "can we see the sea yet" :)

I, personally, am not looking forward to the pre-WotLK patch or the premise of WotLK at this point. At the moment classes are far more unfinished and unpolished than they were prior to BC.

The new arenas look so-so. Hazards in arenas haven't been implemented well in the past (see Nagrand tornadoes.) I have my doubts on whether the arena hazards will last more than a month once all the hardcore Arenajunkies get a spin on them.

If anything, the only thing I'm excited about is the changes to hunter pets, because hunter pets are sweet.

August 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSvensored

i was excited about the changes to hunter pets, UNTIL they made the last talent row not BM spec only, which is BULL, y cant "beast"master hunters have pet skills marksmen hunters cant have?? not like MM/survi hunters give a crap about there pets

August 27, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterxaladan

For Ecco and Jules... they added a tower right next to the tirisifal glades one and a tower to the left of orgrimmar facing the main gate... to get to northrend.

August 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterZedicori

I'm actually pissed because my time just ran out and I don't get to try the new talents until maybe December.

The Explosive shot reminds me of MapleStory, which sucked ass because of the grinding.

But is the last talent in the BM spec gonna give you a lot of points or something?

The Rapid Recuperation is gonna be useful in raids, you like gain mana equal to 50% of the damage done, AND the abilities cost 20% less mana,

I look forward to the shaman class getting new spells and talents, like the summon wolves thing (or whatever it was called...). What I desire even more, though, would be if Blizzard gave shamans some CC. You're pretty good to go if your shaman is spec'ed elemental or restoration but... My main character is enhancement and I've been passed over by groups on quite a few occassions exactly because I don't have any CC. :-(

On a brighter note, I am absolutely thrilled that Blizzard is finally addressing the pain that is known as the pet training system. :D

August 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I like that there gonna do this but i just hope the finish all of the talents and skills for the classes. AKA warlock, we still need affli to be raid viable!

August 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRockeroad

Plus i i hope they allow for some of those skills that dont stack in the beta to stack. I mean soon you won't need a warlock but just a druid or DK or rogue for our stuff! Im gonna go and cry now

August 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRockeroad

I'm to be honest really looking forward to this patch! Barber shop! New profession - sure inscription doesnt look THAT exciting but neither is enchanting (in my opinion) but look how profitable and in demand that is.
And being a balance druid - loads of our talents seem to have been improved so that only seems good. =)
Hope this patch turns out to be a huge success and makes everyone want to play WotLK =P

September 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterArizor

enchanting from what i heard is getting a BIG facelift. Early on they were talking about having you be able to write the enchant on a scroll and be able to sell it or trade it to alts. They were going to do this with Inscription too. But again this was an interview a LOONG time ago and they may have changed their minds

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAttix

WOW!!

i was gonna wait till WOTLK to come out but now that they are releasing all the good anticipating stuff before WOTLK.
i need to go buy my pre paid card NOW!!!!

man i wanna be there when it all happens..

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
