Interface Tips for Patch Day

With major UI changes now live in patch 3.1, you may find your carefully tweaked interface less than functional. Many major addons are updating very quickly and are well prepared thanks to the PTR, but for addons that are developed by one or two people, both of whom are very excited to jump into Ulduar, updates may not come so soon.

For players new to the addons scene, if you want to try experimenting with getting your now outdated addons, be sure to hit "addons" in the bottom left of your character selection screen and check the box that says "load out of date addons". At this point, I would suggest turning on one or two addons at a time and playing with them to see how functional they are before continuing. It can be very confusing as to why there are strange bars on your screen or why you can't open your professions windows when you turn on dozens of addons at once.

To start checking out updates for your addons, check out the Curse addon client or the WoWinterface addon client. Both of these scan your addons and make installation and updates of addons much easier. When an addon updates, test it out and make sure it does what you want it to.

This may be a good time to invest in a "bug grabber" addon. If your addons give you a lot of errors, an bug grabber will suppress the windows and put them in a different place where you can opt to view later. I use tekErr for being lightweight and working well. I don't see any addon errors anymore.

On another note, this may be a good time to lighten up your interface. Clean out those addons you don't use and see if you see a performance increase. I was reminded of how fast WoW can load when all my addons are off!

How is everyone's interface? Did you bite the bullet and jump into Ulduar with a broken interface, or are you fine-tuning it before your adventure?

I only have a few addons running on my main, but those few addons I can't live without. The in game map is horrible in my opinion. I can live without Omen, but DBM will be hard to adapt to not having. All my other addons were just bullshit addons like my Bejeweled addon :P

I'll just have to update my stuff next time I got some time off. Until then I'm enjoying the Argent Tournement. I already got the new rare pet drop for horde the Spirit Darter on 2 on my toons. I'm getting the silly stuff out of the way fast :P

I had the added frustration of both dealing with outdated addons and adjusting to my new spec (I had been a BM hunter for leveling and was waiting for the free respec at update to switch to Survival). So re-tweak Bartender, lament the current loss of zHunter and rejoice at doing away with quiver/ammo pouches.

I wonder if quest helper is going to integrate the new option to link a quest items with quest status.

I love the updated mini map. I can see mining nods from miles away.

Questhelper isn't going to be updated for the new patch.

On topic, I've decided to run addon free for a little while, and even when i do get some it'll probably just be omen or DMB

I'm not a heavy addon user, so I just jumped into the fray XD

I'm currently lamenting the loss of questhelper. I have my Druid alt to 71 and I can tell the goin will be a bit slower now.

Beyond that, the only addon that is broken that I miss is Necrosis. I'm hoping it will update soon or I will be a very sad warlock. :(

It wasn't so bad. Almost immediately I got dominos (buttons) so my UI was intact. Took me a while to remember where I hid cast bar (Quartz is not updated and the first two fights i had no casting bar). What i miss the most is TrinketMenu. Great add to automate trinket swapping

Xpearl was a nightmare for me to update, because im lazy and dont install my addons manually, i use WoWMaxtrix which does it for me. So when i went to update my PallyPower, XPearl, Questhelper etc alot of them wouldn't automatically update. So i had to wait nearly two days until i could get them updated.

Well since the only addon I have and use is Atlasloot... So no, there are no problems :P

@Germ508, When was the last time you actually looked at your wowmatrix interface. It's worthless now that it's being blocked. Many mod sites show up offline. I too loved wowmatrix but for now, it's no longer an option.

hee hee i went on a mahoosive addon purge the other day...
hate to say it tho Xperl, questhelper, recount, omen, grid, Atlas+atlasloot, auctioneer, outfitter and deadly boss mods stayed...

it wasnt a successful purge to be honest, but with them all off u can log and relog in seconds its fantastic.

the 3 main culprits for the slowdown are Cartographer, Xperl and Questhelper. if u can live without them bin them and u'll see a nice little boost to ur log in times;
i obviously cant live without them :(
