Patch 3.2: Information Overload

Nothing Interesting For My Class, But Tons Of Little Nuggets

Good lord.  You do a post on just recently announced content and the day it goes live Blizzard drops a cavalcade of new information on the WoW playing populace.  I don't know about you, but when this much information comes out at once I tend to become overwhelmed.   Sure, there isn't much to digest rogue-wise (yay Axes! </sarcasm> Daggers fo' lyfe yo!), or even priest-wise, so that cuts out most of the critical thinking that goes into patch notes for me.  With nothing to QQ about I have been focusing on the little gems and locating overlooked modifications.

For example, the ability to level in battlegrounds (via quests, not killing people, which would be cooler) is one hot tamale.  It's also a feature that has been requested for some time.  When this was originally discovered pre-patch notes, people were worried about the state of twinking.  Well, Blizzard has all those level 19 rogues in VanCleef gear covered with the power to turn off XP gain.  That feature is simply huge and goes well beyond twinking to "classic" servers.  While not exactly the same as a vanilla or TBC locked server, turning off your XP gain can enable nostalgic gamers to level a character to 60, or 70, and play as if it were 2004, or 2007!  In the end I think this is a great solution to the classic server problem.  It enables those rosey-eyed gamers to (almost) get what they want, but doesn't cost Blizzard much of anything.

My fellow vanity pet collectors are likely rejoicing over the new critters we can add to our stables.  It isn't just a token addition either.  Sure, the Argent Tournament has another one, and you can go the cheesy way and purchase one from Breanni, but the true nuts will be out in Un'Goro, Stranglethorn Vale and numerous other areas farming the pets from elite raptors across Azeroth.  A total of 8 vanity pets have been added to the game (not including Argent Tournament rewards).  Pet owners aren't the only players getting some dinosaur action.  Horde players can pick up a poisonous Ravasaur mount from the trainer in Un'Goro.  Yes, the mount is Horde only.

We also have more profession changes.  The biggest one that I came across was the change to potion stacking.  No longer will raiders have to dedicate a full bag to their assorted potions, as they will now stack to a respectable amount, 20.  Of course I foresee most raiders filling their bags with stacks of 20 anyways, crazy blocks that they are.  In Cooking we have the tweak to the Chef's Hat.  The fashionable cookware not only makes you looks good, no to mention dedicated to the art of cuisine, but enables Wolfgang Puck impersonators to cook faster.  I'll be picking up one of these bad boys for that utility.  Still no concrete data on the "increase benefits" to the Engineering goodies though, but it's nice to see that Potion Injectors give an added 25% benefit when used by a tinkerer.  Gas cloud discovery is being moved to the Mote Extractor and off the Goggles.  What the hell took so long?

Call of the Crusade is shaping up to be a nice patch.  It may not have an ostentatious sized raid like Secrets of Ulduar, but it does have a copious collection of changes.  What diamonds in the rough have you most excited?  Perhaps actual (epic) diamonds?  Maybe the bloating of the Dalaran Sewers Arena map?

Kind of suprised by the emblem changes. The new type is pretty standard but the fact that you'll now pick up Conquest emblems from anywhere you currently nab Valor or Heroism, which means that the gear that you used to only have access to if you raided 25man Ulduar and some Emalon action will be farmable via heroics. MADNESS!

I'm also thankful for the hunter trap categorized CD's. Can you say: Freezing Arrow, Immolation Trap, Snake Trap, Triple Explosive Shot? I can, and it makes me giddy every time I do.

yea the biggest thing to me is the emblem changes, while i still think its really awesome cuz i've farmed my heroics, and i farmed naxx to get what i have now, so this makes it easier for me to gear for the content im doing, but the change lets people who just hit get right to where I'm at and it kinda makes me mad. guess just one more thing their changing to make the game more casual. oh well at least i can finally get some upgrades. my guilds pretty casual and not the best so we aren't progressing that fast, so this change is welcome if it helps my guild get further

i want that mount its guna look so cool

Must. Have. DINOSAUR MOUNT!!!!!!!

Oh and the emblem changes also took me somewhat aback as well. Instead of trading up emblems, they freely hand out the top level of emblem to everyone and allow you to trade down to get the emblems you need to buy more stuff :S. How strange.......

Oh and priest changes have been a little thin on the ground lately anyway. But then if we do recieve some Blizz love it may be in the form of a nerf (don't touch Mind Sear or Mana Burn 'kay?).

Kinda surprised I don't hear more Shaman rejoicing on my server, but then they are pretty slow to catch up with the news ^^.

The biggest change that confuses me (but is also a little exciting) is the emblem change. I don't see why Blizzard wants to make the process of getting geared so easy. Maybe they just want everyone to get geared for the new raid and not have to worry about going through all the different levels of raids to get adequately geared (which could take forever for some people depending on their play style, like myself!).

It does, at the same time, makes me excited. My guild has been steadily attempting 10man Ulduar but because we're a casual raiding guild we're not exactly geared for it yet. We like to try because, despite being not geared for it, each time we push a little further or learn some new strategy. With the new emblem system we'll be able to push through very easily and that makes me excited, not only on 10man but also on 25man.

ret pally's got screwed from them taking out matyr

June 19, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercoltsfan

Its good that the Horde get a new mount, but they better have to rep grind for it. I spent a lot of long nights doing those 3 quests in Winterspring over and over, and I'm pround to ride on my spiffy mount. I hope they pose a similar grind to the Horde players.

WHY BLIZ!?!?!?!? WHY SCREW MY DPS BY TAKING OUT SEAL OF MATYR?!?!?!?!? AND MY CRUSADER STRIKE DMG!?!?!? WHY!?!?!? IMA HAFTA SWITCH TO PROT CAUSE NEW ARDGENT DEFENDER LOOKS SWEET

Turn off exp gain? Great, now we'll see even more ridiculously-priced level 19 gear.

June 20, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterellwynna

!?!?!?!!?!?!!?!!? VANITY PETS

June 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNebyula

Uh did we forget to mention that Retribution Paladins will all now have to re-spec to protection if they want to play. They are nerfing Crusader's Strike, Seal of Command, Seal of the Martyr/Blood, Vindication, and Art of War. Goody, Exorcism can target PvP targets, but you'll get interrupted now that it casts as fast as your new mount (1.5 seconds). Not that re-speccing to Prot. will evade the nerfs, they are killing off ardent defender (AGAIN) and making it even more ridiculous to buy into. Oh yea and for every spec, Judgement of Light no longer scales with power, instead its 2% across the board. Why even bother judging then?

sadly this is probably gointo best part fo the patch
