Prepare for Paid Race Change Service "Coming Soon"

Only a few weeks ago, WoW's faction change service went live, and now it looks like race changes within the same faction are up next. Earlier this month, Blizzard added a button for Race Change ("Coming Soon") to its list of paid services under Account Management.
As you may recall back in July, when Blizzard blue poster Nethaera put up an FAQ on the faction change service, one of the questions was whether characters would be able to change their race within faction. The answer?
But then earlier this month, after the button was added to the web site, Nethaera amended that, saying:
Not surprisingly for Blizzard, it's a pretty non-committal response, in terms of how soon the service may be offered. But it looks like it may be coming up quickly. Thursday, Bornakk again addressed the upcoming service, saying that:
Just on pure speculation, it would indeed seem that the service probably isn't far off since the more complex issues involved with faction changes already have been addressed. Faction change service came quite a bit sooner than a lot of people had anticipated, so perhaps we really will see this new service roll out in the near future. Perhaps even the next patch?
Then there's the question of cost. Well, character re-customization costs $15. And a faction change will run you $30. So I'd guess an in-faction race change will be somewhere in the middle, probably $20-$25. Once again, this has not been confirmed, but it seems logical that it may be within that range.
Personally, I'm happy with my character's race, faction and general appearance. But I know a couple of my guildies are super-excited for the chance to change their race. Whether just for looks and aesthetic preferences or to gain a different set of racial skills and passives, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons to get a new look. Who else is looking forward to using the service once it's released?
As you may recall back in July, when Blizzard blue poster Nethaera put up an FAQ on the faction change service, one of the questions was whether characters would be able to change their race within faction. The answer?
"No. Players will only be able to switch to a race of the opposite faction."
But then earlier this month, after the button was added to the web site, Nethaera amended that, saying:
"Based on further community feedback, we have also decided to offer a race change service in the future. Players who choose to switch races will be able to change their race within their same faction and class. Additional details will be released at a future date."

"More information will be provided on this upcoming service when we are closer to launching it. Hang tight, it's not far off."

First !!!
If this comes before I can change my faction again imma be pissed.
First?!!???!?!!
@ Nef, Ryan = FAIL.
I have too many blood elves, wouldnt mind changing to UD/Tauren.
My BF is leveling a belf pally right now, plans on race changing to tauren as soon as that's available.
Considering I play a druid a race change isn't gonna help me all that much...
Happy with my rogue being human as well
Awesome love this and been waiting for it. I have a dwarf hunter always wanted a Night Elf mainly for the name seems to fit a Night Elf better so cannot wait.
I wouldn't mind having the option. When I first created my characters, I went a little blood elf crazy. I would like a more diverse group of characters to play with, but I don't want to delete and start over.
i wanna turn my dwarf to nelf cause i like the racial for warriors :)
female troll warrior --> male orc warrior ... here i come!
Zumo. yes it will matter.
That is, if you wanna switch to a Worgen Druid (if you're ally).
Or a Troll Druid (if you play on Horde)
I was thinking more along the lines of 'wait until the next expansion and quickly have the first level 85 Goblin and Worgen on my server'.
Not that I would, personally, but am sure there are more than a few out there who would and will.
too bad u cant change to goblin/worgen when cataclysm comes out. even blizzard though it would be pretty stupid when people can gain the achi "server first goblin" in a matter of days after expansion.
the competition with new races will ... thank god... be equal, people start from scratch to level their new race.
This will make a big difference indeed. As to the racial abilities people might want but of course mostly for the visual experience.
Since I heard of the faction change I´ve been thrilled. I played mostly allience in my first 2 years of wow but now I almost exclusively play horde which has left me with quite a bunch of alts I never touch. I´m definetly gonna transfer my 80 warrior and turn him a blood elf(as soon as that´s possible) but recently I wanted to explore what (blood elf)priests are like and would love to have one on 80. So I got a dwarf priest on another server(lvl 35) and a troll one on my current playing server(lvl 30).
This has put me into a dilemma. Should I move my dwarf to my realm and change his faction or should I just wait and change race of my troll. The thing is that I really would like a specific name for my belf priest which would make me pay for a name change on my troll aswell while I get that included in my dwarfs faction change. Although if I choose to change the dwarf it´ll be the more expensive option anyway.
But I have a question: Do you keep your mounts when you change faction? Cuz it would awesome to ride a ram as a belf
What do you think I should do?
Thanks
I doubt the +10% experience heirlooms will work in Cataclysm, as the whole world is changing and you won't be running around the same old Azeroth that the heirloom items allow you to zoom through. I may be wrong, and if I am, I'll still be picking up a set for my Worgen druid.
Awesome!!! I got a level 60 tauren hunter that i gladly saw changing in to bloodelf :-)
Human pally stays human pally though :-)
I have a 80 troll mage and its been hell i hate the way thay move and cast spells i have used over 3000 noggenfoggers
so when this comes out i'm going undead can't wait
I've been thinking about this for a while, knowing full well it would be released eventually. I've always told people that if I'd had the BC expansion when I made my male human paladin he would have turned out a female draenei. I've been debating whether or not to go through with it. The draenei have a larger base mana pool and the additon of the extra HoT (Gift of the Naaru). I dunno if it'd be worth it but definately something to think about.
Maybe, just maybe I'll change teh race of my Human retadin. Humans are so...plain and regular you know? Atleast that's how I feel. It will however depend heavily on what teh new racial skills turn out to be.
What would be really amazing is if they came out with a Class change as well. Although there would be the problem of DKs changing. But if I could switch to a paladin, it would just be so amazing.
@Noric - my first real foray into levelling past 25 was on a Draenei, and for a while I played them almost exclusively, because of the Gift of the Naaru racial. It kept me alive more times than I could count, and it was difficult learning to compensate for not having it. Great racial, in my opinion, and it means that even my warrior can do a quick heal on a group member if it comes down to it.
all good things
site best
Very interesting site. Hope it will always be alive!,
Gnome Warrior -> Human Warrior <3
