The following post contains information on World of Warcraft's third expansion, Cataclysm. If you don't want to hear about upcoming lore, features or races, then move on to the next informative post at ProjectLore.com.
We may have known a bit about WoW: Cataclysm before BlizzCon 2009 thanks to Internet sleuths, but Blizzard still shook the very foundations of Azeroth with a few of the reveals. The company confirmed most of the rumors, didn't confirm or deny others, and added a range of things that weren't expected. But the community's hunger for more information hasn't slowed since the doors closed in Anaheim. The latest edition of PC Gamer UK should quench some of that thirst, as the company has the first major announcements on Cataclysm outside of BlizzCon in the latest edition of PC Gamer UK.
We noted in the Goblin and Worgen previews that our characters started off at level 5 instead of the usual level 1. Blizzard did this on purpose to shield our virgin brains from experiencing "some very cool stuff." We weren't able to experience it, but the crew at PC Gamer UK did, and they filled us in on the details.
The worgen story is told via a flashback to the good ole days of no curse, the Scourge first encroaching on the lands, and the initial whispers of some sort of plague. It's at this time that we come across, and join up with, Crowley, a man who believes Gilneas' isolationism will be the fall of the kingdom. Upon realizing that the worgen you are defending the city's cathedral against are your feral friends, you succumb to the curse yourself. It's a this point that the story merges with our hands-on experience.
The goblin experience continues to intrigue me. Starting at level 1, we are placed in the role of a well-off entrepreneur that spends his life savings trying to escape the morally corrupt Kezan, the goblin home city. Following that bit of moral depravity is the fact that our life savings only manages to buy us a one way ticket into slavery. Thank god the Alliance blew up the ship before we were delivered! It's here that we pickup in the Lost Isles.
It's mentioned in the podcast that the goblins will redesign Azshara severely. To the point that the goblin city is designed to look like the symbol of the Horde when viewed from the sky. Those crazy goblins.
Some smaller story elements that come to light in the article is include confirmation that Garrosh will become the new Warchief. His first act, to remove all but the orc and tauren defenders from the center of Orgrimmar. According to Hellscream, only those races are capable of defending the center of the city. We're also tipped off to an expanding Undercity, and a change to the fate of Southshore. According to the piece, the Horde will no longer be responsible for the loss of Southshore, apparently a tidal wave will be the culprit.
I've covered the big reveals for you, but PC Gamer UK has some additional details that are of interest. You can pickup a copy of the magazine for the full scoop, or check out the most recent PC Gamer UK (accents!) podcast for a select discussion. The WoW stuff is in the early section of the podcast, but is broken up by tangent discussions and comparisons - you got Champions Online in my World of Warcraft!

first and thts sweet
i loved how they worked with phasing and made the DK starting zone amazing. i can't wait to see what they do for the new zones.
noooooooo not Southshore....Nooooo!!!
Epic.
But damn. The Worgen Starting Zone is sounding awsome! It's shaping up to be a lot better than the Death Knight zone.
Now I'm conflicted. I LOVE lore and roleplaying, but the Dk is my favorite class...
Warrior or DK....HALP!
Damn
Hellscreams a racist
I may be Alliance, but Hellscream is badass.
And, how do you come across him as being racist? To you, maybe, but to the Orcs, he's just showing his pride and vigor.
Believe it or not, I can say that well over half the orcs would support Garrosh as Warchief. Nazgrel being a notable one.
I was REALLy hoping the Garrosh Hellscream rumors would be JUST rumors! Oh, I hope he doesn't bring ruin to the Horde...
So only allowing two races into the center of the city isn't racist AT ALL?
yeah, theres a line between racism and pride and id call garrosh a racist but with that said its not like he frowns upon the other horde races when it is known that the orcs and tauren are the most physically strong races in all of the horde
and with him being the new warchief and varian being in charge of the alliance now....its gonna be interesting to see them butt heads
I was REALLy hoping the Garrosh Hellscream rumors would be JUST rumors! Oh, I hope he doesn’t bring ruin to the Horde…
This. I'm all for the WAR in warcraft, but garrosh is pigheaded, rash, and stupid, not the sort of person you want leading a war.
Plus, I love my Thrall <3
God DAMN it. F**king Garrosh.
So glad my Horde characters are RPed as members of their race who are NOT part of the Horde (one's part of the Ebon Blade, the other is part of the Zandalari Tribe). I just HATE Garrosh.
Also, to Garrosh: TROLLS?! WHY NOT TROLLS?! TROLLS?! Fag. Trolls are awesome, why can't THEY defend the city too, ass?! Make them the archers or something if you don't want them as warriors, you stupid b**ch!
That is all.
Wow. Just... wow. I was so hoping it'd be just a rumor that Garrosh would become the new warchief. And booting out everyone who's not Tauren or Orc? What the heck, mon! I can see him not liking the Blood Elves or Foraken, but c'mon... Trolls too? :|
My twin, Aliok, agrees: "I'll be sendin' 'im bad juju!"
Got to say, even as alliance, to the hordies who read this..I feel sorry for u guys. (mainly trolls ) about the new rules about org.
However will this mean , those races cannot actually enter org in the xpansion?
This may lead to a new troll city in SV as it is being changed drastically. ZG...Is there am i right? So yeah i would say a troll city is on its way, and may become the main city the "non orc-non tauren" horde go to.
And tbh I cannot see other leaders *Sylvanas etc.. taking to this kindly*
And as for Caine Bloodhoof...well it my suspicions? He will be crowned new leader of horde..but garrosh will sadly..kill him. But with tauren leader being killed..how will this fair with Taurens in Org?
Sorry for the wall of text lol.
But it is sounding epic this expansion :)
@onthebuses
While it'd be nice for trolls to get a (mini) city of their own... Past experience says "don't get your hopes up".
does this mean tht thrall will die against arthas? Or will Garrosh Betray him. Tht rly sux cuase thrall is a great leader. However, PVP will get much better because of this change of attitude towards the alliance and vise versa with King Wrymm. Also, with thrall gone, i think jaina proudmore will not be very apathetic towards the horde anymore. I don't think she will stop a fight between King Varian and Garrosh if they clash this time.
Eh. This pains me greatly, but I've finally made my choice.
My main will be Worgen DK.
Ill make another Worgen to lvl through Gilneas
GARROSH FTL!!!!
He's a completely savage moron, I would rather have a wise ruler than a "badass".
THRALL FTW!
Garrosh is a brash moron. Bleh. And trolls get the boot again. Not even the power of awesome can sway stupidity it seems.
i cant imagine hellscream kicking the trolls out of orgrimmar, since along with the orcs and tauren they are also part of the "true horde" but whatever happens happens. im a huge fan of thrall so i may end up just shunning orgrimmar
At first i was gonna say i didn't want Thrall to give up hiss seat, but Garrosh makes much more sense to kill during a city raid cuz thrall's too sympathetic to the alliance in cinemas and cut scenes. Varian Wrynn is a racist moron so if i'm gonna follow a crazed moron i might as well kill another one.
To my crazy mind in the last update of Cataclysm Thrall will take the post of Warchief back! Thrall RULZ Garrosh is a rasist.
So... Worgen start as human? Sounds cool, but it is gonna be disorienting after the change.
And as for Garrosh... Yeah, I don't like him. He's too aggressive. Fighting battles is important in a leader, but knowing when to avoid them is just as important. Garrosh will do something stupid to kill himself, you mark my words. "I can totally solo Deathwing!"
And yay for UC expansion. They gotta put the hunter trainers somewhere, after all.
Thrall is being groomed for some epic treehugging because of disturbances in the Emerald Dream, and some folks waking up. I never levelled a druid (or Horde character) much beyond mid-20s so don't know much about it, tbh, but that's what I've gathered.
@Spifftastic
Yeah, I'm also amazed that Worgen start as human and the starting zone is just awesome. And I've been reading lately about this expansion, I hope all these leaks and information are true. Here's an interesting article on how to make the most out of the game. Check this out: http://www.articleslash.net/Gaming/Online-Gaming/535244__How-to-make-the-most-of-World-of-Warcraft-Cataclysm.html
By the way, no firm date of release of the expansion yet?
@ billy;
great link...some real good suggestions and content. i for one think i'll travel the old world before its changed and as paiful as it sounds, i'm gonna roll me goblin. by the way, if its true that thrall will no longer rule the horde...then garrosh can kiss me but and i'll change my orc lock to undead.
