Holiday Burn Out

I'm usually a gung-ho fan of world events. Since hitting 80 on my main in September, I've plunged myself head-first into every event in the quest to complete What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been and earning that coveted Violet Proto-Drake. And since it's my first time doing most of the event-related achievements, they've been intriguing enough to hold my interest.

But over the course of February, something changed and withered away at my enthusiasm for world events. I blame the latest combination of Love is in the Air butted up and overlapped with the Lunar Festival.

Love is in the Air starts out super cute. And just through completing my usual round up of dailies I was usually able to wrangle up enough Lovely Charms to make four bracelets and, in addition to the other two event dailies, get my 30 tokens each day. By the end of the first week of the event, I had earned my Love Fool title and started collecting tokens to purchase a complete set of the Lovely dresses in each color for my growing wardrobe. I even ended up with a couple of extras, which will be sent to alts.

I was still in the spirit until the Lunar Festival sneaked up and smacked me in the head. I'll admit it -- looking at that daunting list of Elder NPCs to whom I had to pay a visit was somewhat depressing. But, I respect that I must work for what I want in-game (proto-drake!), so I buckled down and visited most of the elders over the span of a weekend, thankfully while watching the Olympics so I had something to keep me engaged.

Maybe it was the dungeon elders that finally broke me. The LFG feature and choosing the specific dungeons I still needed was a huge help for finishing that up without guildies who mostly completed the achievements last year. My final stop was at the elder in Azjol-Nerub with a PUG of lowbies for the regular dungeon. The DPSers and healer in the group seemed thankful I was there to help - we were killing stuff really fast - but the tank seemed ticked off that he couldn't hold aggro. Sure, as a rogue I used TotT as often as I could to help with that issue, but for pulls when it was on CD I continued to go all out since I wasn't taking enough damage to really care. Plus, I knew I could just vanish if I got in a real pickle. The QQ just rubbed me the wrong way, I suppose.

Anyhow, now that that's done and over with, I'm looking forward to a bit of a break and getting back to my usual WoW schedule. Funny how my perspective has changed from just a couple of weeks ago!

So how is everyone else holding up with their holiday achievement grinds? Are you looking forward to Noblegarden, or just glad, like me,  to have a bit of a break?

I'm with you Pixy! Usually the holidays are a great break from the daily grind i.e. dailies, instances, raids, etc., and I look forward to 'em. I think this was just an unusual overlap where it became more of "same ol', same ol' " instead of something fun and unique to do. I am looking forward to Noblegarden simply because it's something I've really not immersed myself into before. Enjoy the break and hope NG works out better for ya! <I have my shoelaces crossed for NG myself!>

i actually thought that Noble Garden was really iritating. But they had actually changed love is in the air since last year, this year was a lot easier than it used to be.

Pixie, I so understand when you related your experience with low lvl playrs. I have been there myself recently. Never agree to help level 60s in AQ Ruins when you're the only 80. I'm a Hunter, not a meat shield.

Looking forward to Noblegarden? No, I finished that one last year. And I have all the goodies associated with it (pet, speed basket, bouquet, dress and tux). If they have new things out I may do a few repeatables to get them. Other than that, only a new seasonal boss will get me involved.

The main thing I'm looking forward to is Children's Week. Only 2 achievements left to go to pick up my Violet Proto-Drake.
