My Old Servers Ache - Chronic Pain
Exaggeration, not my actual server.
Magtheridon, my home server, has been off ever since the Lich King was released upon the masses. Pings of 100-200ms (56k speeds) have become the norm. Unplayable pings of 500ms and beyond plague prime time on Tuesday and Wednesday. As the week moves on the server becomes more playable. To little to late, as the damage is done to most guilds. Including mine, which raids on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only.
After a successful 25-man with my two 10-man guilds last Tuesday, this Tuesday's was an absolute disaster. While forming the raid we realized that the pings were going all over the place, from tolerable to two seconds of lag. We zoned in hoping that the instance cluster would be more stable. It wasn't. We cleared trash, but could not get past Marrowgar due to the sporadic latency. After the raid dissolved a 10-man was formed to tackle Ignis, the new weekly quest. Our assumption was that being outgeared would make up for any lag. The quick demise of Flame Leviathan gave us hope. False hope, we wiped. Repeatedly. Our failing was chalked up to lag and everyone logged in disgust. Who knows if my rogue will get his weekly done now...
I've had it up to here - /me raises hand to throat - with Lagtheridon's performance, but there aren't many options. I could pay for a server transfer, a ludicrous proposition given the issue is entirely Blizzard's fault. To be honest, I don't think I'd bite on a free transfer. Magtheridon is my home. It is where my WoW career started, and where I want it to end.
I do not believe that Blizzard owes me for the lost time. In fact, no gear, free day or gold is going to cool my jets. I feel that I am entitled to a server that's on pair with the rest of the realms. I know what you're thinking, "you're the one who picked the old server." That is true, I am an original player. I shouldn't get penalized for that.
Blizzard, please let us know what's going on to rectify the situation. Are the old servers - most of them are having issues - getting upgrades? Maybe upcoming free migrations to thin out the highly populated, yet archaic servers? Give us angry nerds some information.
Screw population, Blizzard should list a realm's hardware in the realm selection list.
Has anyone else been having horrible, raid killing server issues the past few weeks? Issues so bad that they'd kill a new MMOG.

I'm not thinking it's your fault for picking an old server, since I don't know any server which, if it isn't already laggy, won't be getting people coming in via the free migration.
I started up playing WoW on Chromaggus EU (the server my mate who got me playing was on) about a year ago and had been there happily for about 10 months until Blizz allowed a free character migration to Chromaggus. Since the arrival of the new players, Dalaran has finally turned into the infamous lag zone I'd previously thought was just others' bad connections.
Not being a computer expert I don't know much about solutions, but the only way I can think to remedy the lag is to add new servers and split up the player base, which would require time to set up and many other separate worlds to upkeep.
Hopefully Blizz will add some new servers or find a way to fix the lag (for me it's mainly instance servers and Dalaran, so the use of 4 single faction based capitals in Cata will help) by Cataclysm or before hand. Especially if cata will see the influx of new and old players the previous expansions saw.
i wuld kill for a 100ms ping >.< wtb oceanic servers in oceanic countries
HA on bleeding hollow i run around in silvermoon with a latancy of 80 000 or higher suck on that!
i play on EU Ravenholdt and also noticed a marked increase in MS. usually i get betwen 100 and 300ms (which is odd, seeing as i have a 16meg connection, and I live in southeast UK), but have seen increases above 2k, and some guidies regularly encounter well over 3k ms.
Although it is quite fun to get a Boss down to 1% health, only for the lagmonster to rear its ugly head for a few seconds of playing statues, ony to see the server catch up and all the attacks you made while laggy catch up on themselves for the fastest 1% i have ever seen (Benny Hill chase style).
I used to be on Zul'jin until BC gave me a free transfer to Trollbane and out of the damn queues.
P.S. @iTZKooPA
Is the lag the reason most of the people from you server are jerks in LFD?
I had a similar lag issue... Then I upgraded my GPU... Jist a thought.
Delete your cache, WTF and interface files. That will solve the problem. In fact, it sometimes seems to me that Blizzard thinks all of the world's (and I"m speaking of the real world) problems would be solved by doing those things.
