My Foray Into Dual-Boxing

Sometimes, you log in and nobody is around to group with you for heroics. Sometimes, your arena team is busy. Sometimes, your guild is busy wiping on a new boss for two hours. Sometimes, you just want some mindless fun. Recently, when I find myself in those situations, I've been leveling up some new alts. I've been playing a druid, and I've been playing a priest. At the same time. Kind of. I signed up for the Recruit a Friend program to test out that juicy triple XP. I entered my own name as the name of my friend, which I suppose is true enough. I tend to consider me a friend. So, I made a second account and, on it, created a dwarf priest. I'm not dual-boxing to pwn in arena or to solo Kara. I just have the priest auto follow the druid while I rip stuff up in cat form. If I need some help, I'll just have the priest bubble, renew, or heal the druid. It's fun, it's a new type of challenge, and it's a good way to get a lot of levels. And I mean a LOT of levels. The rate at which these two characters are leveling is pretty unbelievable. A guildy ran us through stocks a few times, where I got two levels from the mobs and one from completing the quests. Each character got almost 10,000 xp for each of the Stockade quests. That is pretty ridiculous in the mid 20s. Now, they both have their mounts and are level 31 and 32. Soon we will be roaming Outland, killing Overlord. Maybe. Now, I'm not really into the exclusive mount thing, so I probably won't keep the account for the full time needed to unlock that Zhevra. I just figured that it's a good way to get a couple of alts up to at least 60 before the expansion hits. Once the priest hits 59, I'll have him give 29 levels to my level 28 warrior or my 29 mage. That will be three characters to 60 in less time than it normally takes one. And then perhaps my dual-boxing days will be behind me. Although, maybe I will start the whole process over again with a combination of a hunter, a rogue, or a pally. I'm thinking rogue/pally would be easiest. Hunters are OP while soloing anyway. Once that's done, I might have a chance to finally get that second shaman I've always dreamed of. If you couldn't tell, I love shaman. And I love alts. After WotLK comes out, I can take advantage of the over-abundance of death knights that will be roaming Outland looking for groups and have nine 70s (or 80s?) Although, I have heard of 5 DKs completing appropriate level instances in the beta. NERF DKs.

To Enchant Or Not To Enchant?

SolidfailSo you have finally hit level 70 on your alt, or perhaps it is your main.  As you begin to run the 5-man content while trying to get into Karazhan and doing PvP in between it dawns on you that most of your gear lacks enchantments.  Whatever shall you do? Most players will quickly look-up what materials are required for class-appropriate enchantments, only to be shocked or annoyed at how much the enchantments will cost them.  For this discussion we will focus on weapon enchants, generally the most expensive and often the most important. Being a melee class character - a Rogue to be exact - Mongoose is the best enchantment, its tooltip reads "to occasionally increase Agility by 120 and attack speed slightly."  Yum.  But here's the catch, the materials are expensive, costing:

  • 6 x Void Crystal
  • 10 x Large Prismatic Shard
  • 8 x Greater Planar Essence
  • 40 x Arcane Dust
Not to mention the fact that you have to find someone to do this for you, which may cost you a little extra. Well maybe Mongoose is a bit nuts, after all you did just hit 70 and are likely to replace your gear soon.  So how about Executioner which will allow you "to occasionally ignore 840 of your enemy's armor."  Not to shabby in this day where bear tanks easily have over 16,000 armor.  Materials for this one?  Not much different:
  • 6 x Void Crystal
  • 10 x Large Prismatic Shard
  • 6 x Greater Planar Essence ( - 2 GPE)
  • 30 x Arcane Dust (-10 AD)
  • 3 x Elixir of Major Strength (+3 Elixirs)
This begs the question, to enchant or not to enchant? The benefits of such should be readily obvious, you get a boost in selected stats but at what cost?  A character in my predicament, just hit 70 with some basic Karazhan and PvP gear, will easily replace much of their gear in a the coming weeks.  So should they waste all of those mats on a high end enchant?  Probably not and the drawbacks aren't horrible. Lower stats mean lower DPS in my case, or lower healing or crappier tanking in other cases, but not matter what the reduction is by an incredibly small percentage.  Of course, we cannot forget the endless ridicule that may ensue fromguildmates or persons in your party.  Avoiding the constant teasing could make the decision for you. There is one other route, a compromise of sorts.  Instead of getting a high end enchant like Mongoose or Executioner on my Emerald Ripper - an item easily replaced - I will get a medium grade enchant.  Therefore I have SOMETHING which will help me avoid some ridicule while gaining SOME stats but not "wasting" obtuse amounts of gold on mats.  One could argue that I should just save that gold to put into the high end enchant later, but then we get into a vicious cycle and I hate those.  As for my Merciless Gladiator's Shiv?  Well, it won't be replaced nearly as quickly as the Ripper, so Executioner it is. This was my first post here at ProjectLore.com.  Was it good for you?

Sethekk Halls

Sethekk Halls is one section of the Auchindoun, which was formerly a Draenei holy place where the dead were laid to rest. It was, however taken over by the Shadow Council, who summoned an extremely powerful and evil creature. This resulted in a gigantic explosion, causing the Auchindoun to be destroyed and creating the bone wastes around it. The dead who were buried now wander the area as restless spirits. A rift in the Nether was also torn open, bringing the Ethereals into Outland. The Sethekk Halls themselves are populated by the Sethekk, a faction of arakkoa who think they are the true followers of the mysterious master of all arakkoa. The Sethekk abandoned the traditional god of the arakkoa, Rukhmar, to follow the new leader who promises unimaginable power. The Sethekk believe that the immense explosion at Auchindoun signified the arrival of their master on this planet. Led by Talon King Ikiss and Darkweaver Syth, they left Skettis to take over the ruins and find their master within them.

So Who Else Needs A Guild?

I've been playing WoW for sometime now and I have been fortunate to have been in a very good guild. I say have because they disbanded months and months ago and I'm still looking for another one that raids later on my server Frostmane. We raided everything up to BT/Hyjal and then it fell apart one weekend over... well... over some real BS that I won't go into detail about here. All I will say is that I'm not in either of the two or three pick-up guilds that formed out of respect for some of the people I know who joined 'opposing' guilds. Here's a couple rants for this post, in no particular order: 1. Why can't I see what time it is on a server compared to my local RL time zone before I make a character? Did I miss something? Is there some place that Blizzard tells you what time zone each server is in? Why is this so frustrating? Because, even though I have the gear and even though I have the experience in Hyjal and BT and even though there are some guilds that I could apply for, they all raid too early for me and my RL job here at Project Lore. Of course, later I found this fantastic link which would have saved me hours in-game looking for progression guilds because at least I would have known what RL time zone my server was in before I made my toon. I'm in LA on a Chicago-time server that used to have a guild that raided midnight NY time. Ugh! And I can hear the crys now, 'Just switch servers.' No. Sorry. I do have loyalty. That and about five alts that make up my grinding / AH income that keeps me in money to raid... if I ever do again. Damn I want to kill Vashj and Keal'thas. I was there so many freakin' times but damn if the guild didn't destruct probably a week before it would have happened. 2. What is it with the emos in WoW? For me, an emo is an emotional person who /gquits if they don't get a raid invite or, worse, when they don't get to need on a blue drop that's five levels below their gear just so they can DE it for them self and end's up leaving party after the first boss kill. Really? WTF? I'm here to play and play well. I'm here for PvP and PvE and progression raiding. I know my class. I know my roles in raid. And I know WTF to do and not do and when to do and not do it. Btw - I'm cool with Loot by Need and maybe DKP if it's done right, but what gets me is the emo baby BS that turns ppl against each other over some f'kn drop that we'll all probably see in the next week or two. Okay, okay... rares like Ashes of A'lar or Fiery Warhorse's Reins might cause a stir, but really, what's the deal with /gquitting over a Primal Nether. Yes it happened and it was before you could buy them with badges. So if you were ever in a guild that completely fell apart, what happened? How did it go down? And what was the real cause? Was it drama or just RL invading playtime? Let me know 'cause I'm sure you have some horror stories that absolutely top mine. And if your on Frostmane and are looking for a well-geared, experienced raiding mage to raid late server time, let me know. I just want to kick Vashj and Keal'thas' ass.
