Introducing Random Heroes

Today we would like to introduce a brand spankin' new WoW themed comic, created by Björn Þórsson and Ívar Daníel Karlsson. Random Heroes will be a new feature on our blog, and below you will find the first two strips. We think it's off to a great start and we'd love to hear what you guys think, too!

haha i think every hunter wanted a giraffe when they first got the game and then got dissappointed when you couldnt train that beast. awesome comics.

I personally feel a bit sorry for the characters, they can´t really do magic tricks now since they don´t have sleeves.

On a more serious note I liked the style and humor of the comic, and of course a comic with a giraffe is always classic.

Lol, the Arms and Noise are both missing from both comics.

Dakota: they sort of explain that in the first one :-)
Anywho looks great, that giraffe cracked me up.

First comic was stupid.

Second comic was mildly entertaining

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBladebourne

i found them both entertaining ^^ especially the second one. The last line "where my worst fear is an eraser" was priceless.

Hmm, could be me but I just can't read web comicss with bad art. I mean this reminds me of a terrible Control Alt Delete. With even worse writing.

This art can't be by the same people who did the characters for the guides is it? If not get those people to do something a little more professional. Not sure if they can write but the art for those is wicked.

Personally I think the amateurish style brings down the quality of the site.

Bad art? I like it, it's simple and effective.

Good work guys, I look forward to seeing more :)

too many F-bombs in the first one, don't overuse the word! and also......i like it. GOD DAMNIT I WANTED A FRIGGIN GIRAFF SO BAD!!!! i was so sad :(

..Man Alex, guys. I could draw that so much better.

Not to bash whoever drew it. But, really. Comic Sans text? Is this thing done in MS Paint? You *already comitted the two sins of webcomics...

Do yourselves a favor and send the artist a figure study book too. While cartoons are exaggerated you really need a basic idea of proportions and stuff before you start tweaking it.

I'm by no means an amazing artist and consider myself pretty mediocre..but after seeing this, I'm gonna send a small portfolio of my work and offer my skills when I get a chance. I'd be happy to collaborate with the guys doing this comic and at least give them a few pointers. Love your podcast, but don't wanna see the quality of it diluted by a comic that would be laughed at on drunkduck.com ...

Actually that came out way harsher then I intended. Sorry about that, I'm a little grouchy from doing my paper all night for my English class tomorrow. =P This comic has potential, just gotta put in some more effort. That's all.

Here's a good place to start:

1. Drop a few bucks on a legit font from Blambot.com

2. Keep consistent, don't change line widths on speech bubbles.

3. No backround is fine, don't worry about that yet. Focus more on making your characters more fluid. Get some cartooning books by authors such as Andrew Loomis and others. His books greatly helped me make characters look natural instead of stale and boring.

4. Make sure you focus on your spelling/grammar in your speech bubbles. This is something I have trouble with too, but it's quite important. Capitalize your letters, make sure your punctuation is right, etc.

5. Don't break the 4th wall ever again. Those are the lamest jokes you can do for a comic. Doing it once is fine for the first comic. Just don't make it a regular thing. Heh.

Good luck!

And don't listen to the people talking about the word FUCK. its perfectly fine to use FUCK and actually, its getting annoying that everything nowadays has to be scaled and toned down, so that the mass market can enjoy it. Make something that you want to make, and don't pander to the people trying to say, "don't use the F bomb, it makes me a sad panda" just say FUCK. what is wrong with one word that makes stuff more enjoyable, because you know that they are saying what they want, and not what "they can get away with"

oh and the comics are great. I like the style, not everything needs to take weeks and weeks to draw and get done.

done in MS paint? probably.

cheap general font? you betcha.

funny as hell, and still enjoyable to read? absolutely!
