I Love WoW Achievements - Do You?

It\'s over 5000While love might be a little bit of a strong word, I can at least say that I heartily embrace the achievement system that was introduced to World of Warcraft back in patch 3.0. My enjoyment of what amounts to a small pop up and a few more points is probably evident by anyone who has looked at my WoW Armory Page or had a glimpse of Executus' page on WoW-Achievements (where, btw, I am in the top 20 on the server... no biggie, I'm just sayin').

Contrary to what many people will tell you, I don't complete achievements to inflate my online ego (that's what WoW-Heroes is for). A lot of the rewards I've been granted by achievements are sitting in my bank, and many of the titles have graced the space above my character's head for just a few seconds before they were replaced with my old favorites - namely Loremaster, the Seeker, or, most recently, the Undying.

No, I complete the achievements for completion's sake. WoW has a lot to offer players, and I want to see as much of it as I can. I've completed nearly every quest in the game on the Alliance side (and a bunch on the Horde side, too). I know the monotony of grinding Timbermaw Hold rep. I know the exhilaration of the last 30% of Kel'Thuzad on an Undying run. I know where to find all of the Elders for the Lunar Festival, and I've opened every single red envelope that they sent me.

With Love is in the Air coming up this week, I have a short window to get a little closer to that 310% speed Violet Proto Drake. I don't know about you, but I'll be following WoW Insider's Fool for Love Guide until that golden window comes up. Maybe longer.

I didn't used to be like this before the achievements were introduced, so part of it might be an obsessive compulsion in me to see those pop ups and hear the distinct sound they make. I know plenty of people who don't want to go around /loving and killing critters, people who only like achievements that take "skill," and people who will only do the achievements that have rewards. I can see where all of them are coming from. People play WoW for a million different reasons. I'm not an AH junkie or an arena fiend, I'm an achievement whore. It's just what I do. Do you complete achievments, or do you just not care?

Lol good luck on that proto Drake. Although i'm not addicted to getting achievements, it's always fun to have a little box pop up every time you complete an instance. :D

I've never been a huge fan of achievements. I dunno, I never went out of my way on my 360 to get them (unless they give something cool like Dead Rising Mega Man gun) but to each his own. I would like to see better gear rewards for achievements.

February 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersevink

For me, achievements is what makes this game worthwile...you see, some online games are cool, but they're just that stupid grinding, they have little to nothing of content...that's why WoW is a great game: achievements, arena, bg, item quantity and variabillity.

I don't do achievements because, well, I don't see the point in them. But then again, I'm still levelling so. And I mean, I've never hit the level cap. Maybe if they granted rewards like gold, or the achievement points were useable in some way, like a certain amount of points equates to a gear set, or a mount, or something, I dunno.

I agree with Sean on the points spending of Achieve. Points. Other than that, I'm sorta also an achievement whore. I like doing all the random ones that instantly attract my attention. Most of them are mount/General, but other than that..just random things that fit into my agenda.

GJ Project Lore, made my WoW experience SO much more better.

I'll complete them for completion sake, but I like it best when I'm just walking along doing things then all of a sudden it pops up that I completed one. I'm like, "Oh hey! cool!" then go on doing it. I also like hearing when guild members get them too. I like the say Gratz to them cuz they did something big or small, but they got to that point!

So maybe I'm more of a "Congratulations" whore than an Achievement Whore. LOLZ

Yea I play as a 42 shamy on Tarren mill and when we go to instances I always have most achivement points of the party.

Just got the "Loremaster of Northrend" Achievement and it felt pretty awesome. Love it when you get 2 at the same time too.

Hey Juggy, i'd hate to sound like a jerk, but I hope you got in the brew of the month club last year during brewfest, since the achievement "Brew of the Year" requires people to sample one of every month brew, meaning that if you didn't get it last year, you'll have to wait a whole other year before you get your shiny new violet Proto-Drake. But I hope you and everyone else who's going for it this year have the "membership". I on the other hand, well, i'll be a bit slower over the skies of northrend for the next 2 years. Cheers! :)

I'm with the person that says achievements are fun when they pop up. Beyond that though, I just don't get the obsession with them.

My name is Flach and I’m an achievement whore.

February 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFlach

I dont see the point in doing most of them especially the all the stupid holiday ones. I was excited by the violet drak but when i realized i had to do every single holiday achievement that excitment went right out the window....sorry dont have the time for all the nonsense.

February 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterScott

I think they should also add an achievement for collecting all the raid/dungeon gear sets.

February 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAndy

I wanna see when Dorkins on soloing is doing an achivement when he gets a title!

February 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJonathan Bjerkensjö

I love having the achievement too, Juggynaut. It may not be much in the grand scheme of the game, but it adds a nice touch to the whole.

I'm also the sort of gamer where I just *have* to explore every nook and cranny that there is.

I will hold my hands up and admit it that i am an acheivement whore. I have loved all the critters. I had killed the turkeys (which everyone should do it's great). I love them and i think they break up the monotony of grinding or instancing.

I also must admit that i love the titles. I have made guildmates address me by my full title of Elder Ambassador Bloodsail Admiral Kalcifer Jenkins the Explorer (the first)

@Flach: Hello Flach!

February 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHatell

I also go for some of the achievements but not all. The ones with titles and awards are particulary attractive but some of the fun ones (such as the turkey killing one) caught my eye as well. In particular though I'm looking forward to the mountains o mounts achievement. The achievement mount rewards itself is the flashiest titles out there. :)

wow. i just recently got hooked on achievements. im trying to sprint to the finish for my last 10 elders as i type this.

February 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHerofTime

No, I don't care, but I do love hearing the sound.

I just don't go out of my way to hear it.

Life isnt black and white. Nothing sums up to "V's" and "X's". You never "get everything". You wake up each day and go out to the world, and experiece it. That experiece cannot be confind to achieved and not yet achieved.
In my opinion, the achievment system as is, has some what ruind my game experiece.
We all deep inside strive for perfection. Some can control it better then others. Some, myself included, let it take over them. Anything that hasn't an achievment attached to it, is worthless now. So meny people spend their entire game session grinding quests, skiping the text, paying no attention to anything in the game, trying to get that Loremaster title. Ironicaly they probably don't really know much about quest lore since most rushed it anyway.
"Realm First Level 80!" - To me is not a feat of strength, but a feat of obsessivness, of someone making the game, which was meant to be played and enjoyed, into a fievrish race to be that one charechter that when other charechters "Right Click - Inspect - Compare Achievments" him they will behold his "victory".
I agree that there are things in the game that are worth an achievment. Reaching maximum level is always exicting. Clearing a raid gives you a since of pride of what you and your friends have achieved. It's just that the current system somehow feels like Blizzard were affraid that people were begining to loose interest in the game and they had to find a way to Keep Them Hooked. Make them run around for hours chasing things. After a brief stint of being excited about the achievments I now chose to ignore them and suddenly my game play exprience became more relaxed and calm, and I can take things my own time.
I say, focus on what's important = playing with your pals, and not the addictive stuff = Grinding "Achievments".

I am what you call so greatly an achievement whore I really try to go after every achievement and I really like it when I can do it, when from all my friends am the only one who did it. It kinda gives me a thrill to just do some achievements cause really some of them are very hard to do (especialy instances/raids) mainly because I am not such a good party player but then again there are a lot of other achievements I can get and I am really trying to get all of them, although some are for lvl 80 so I also level my char cause I want to get those as well. But yeah that's how I am

Greetings,

Hitmen

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterHitmen

They only purpose of achievements is to show just how much monotonous crap you've wasted your time doing in WoW.

Yes I'm titled,so what?I spent very little time getting my one useless title. What does it get me?Nada.

Not really worth the time to bother with IMO.A few cool mounts but its mostly pointless.

February 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCotytto

I got my love fool achievments done in 2 days. It was that stupid bag of candy that held me back.

Anyway, I love achievments. I feel it is a guide to see all the content in WOW. Before Achievments I had never seen a lot of the old world content because I started playing after the Burning Crusade.

The only thing I with they would change would be to make achievments account bound as opposed to toon bound. In other words. If you did achievments with different toons, they would still all show up on the same achievment page. Anybody agree with me on this?
