The Trials of The Undying

Achievements are many things, they are fun ways to pass time, they are ways to show off some accomplishments, but there are just a few that seem to carry a little bigger meaning. These achievements are truly achievements, and they are not easy.

Tonight I will start my 3rd week of working on such an achievement: The Undying. And let me tell you, it is unlike anything I’ve worked toward in this game before. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the achievement it reads like this: “Within one raid lockout period, defeat every boss in Naxxramas on Normal Difficulty without allowing any raid member to die during any of the boss encounters.”

Or in other words, it demands absolute perfection from every member of the raid. As we learned the hard way, even the tiniest misstep will end the entire attempt. First time we tried this we had zero deaths up until Kel’Thuzad where a Soul Weaver knocked back a death knight into a void zone just as it went off. It was heart breaking.

The worst part about this achievement is that as the run goes on the more stressful it becomes, and if you happen to be the unlucky one to take the first dirt nap you really feel that you let down your friends. I’m sure it is not a good feeling (fortunately I do not know this firsthand).

All of this is why I say that going for the Undying is unlike anything else in the game. It's tough, it's emotional, and its unforgiving. Luck plays very little role as you must play well for the entire run. For all its stress, I think it is great. If you see someone with the title, you know you are looking at a strong player, and likely one that was not carried by his friends. I plan to continue work until I have earned this one, and a true “grats” to any of you that have already done it.

Yes it is stressful, but try reaching for The Immortal title. No deaths in 25 man naxx. /bow before the immortals :)

wow :)

Havn't goten it, seen it once, and want it badly. Our guild however must first COMPLETE Naxx before we may even attempt to do this. There is also a "heroic" version to this title called- The immortal, which sounds equally as cool. I've seen both of thouse titles only once, and i need them, so i been telling my guild to pick up the pace so we can get it. And when that time comes wish me luck!

All that for 10 achievement points.

I think I'll just get a companion pet instead. Same points.

Well said PatrickD! Who needs the stress?

LOL... Nice bast. Juggy "conveniently" posts your article about the undying the day after you get it. Either way, huge grats guys! Very well deserved. I'm sure it wont be long before a lot more TRG peeps are sporting that title. So when you getting your plagued proto? ;)

I'm still feeling bad about that one, not the Undying, but the Immortal.

Imagine being the tank for adds during Kel'thuzad, then being MC'd, then ice blocked when it wears off. All in the last 10%.

The sounds on vent are goofy at best.

now does this mean that you can die on trash or not? i have been wondering this since the text says "on boss encounters"

Jim and Pat:

It's not Just the Point's, it's a Title and Proof that youv'e done Naxx to Perfection. If you had a raid never have 1 person die in BT or Kara, who knew? Now this is Proof that you and your raid is Truly the Best.

Kevin:

You can die on trash, it's only bosses you can't die on, (but honestly, if you can't die on bosses, doubtful you'll die on trash)

errr..Why did you guys still have Soul weavers up @ khel phase 2?..but yeah nice title ^^

February 4, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMortura

@Mortura

Its quite normal that 1 or 2 are left when phase 2 starts. The bigger question is what the DK was doing. Ranged classes takes care of soul weavers. The DK should have started fighting KT.

Imo, that death wasnt really heartbraking, it was a strategy/player error.

you are right bast any1 wareing this title has gone to great effort and you know they can raid with perfection, and finding people of equal for the raid will be harder sometimes than the actual achevement

Tankspot.com posted a great video with a nice overview of the strategy of how they approached going for that achievement.....I thought it made a lot of sense

Thanks guys! Juggy and I did this the night I wrote this, I have to think we had some good karma coming our way from it!

The last 40% on KT was some of the most stressed I have ever been playing this game. It was a blast! :P

@kevin You can have someone die on trash, we did.

@Mortura @Andre The Soul Reavers were up during the transition from phase 1 to 2, we were running with very low ranged DPS so we had to have the melee help. They aren't supposed to knock back as long as a ranged DPS has aggro, and at that point we felt there was nothing bad for them to be knocked back into... oops.

I agree with those of you that mentioned that The Immortal is a whole other ball game, big props to those of you that are working on that one! I can't imagine.

That was by far the most fun night of raiding I've had a very long time. There is really nothing like the sense of accomplishment of getting this achievement. Time to start working on Drakes. I got my A Game ready

February 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJato

Jato cheated the achievement, he didn't do the safety dance.

February 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJuggynaut

I'm quite jealous of those who even manage to do a successful Naxx 10 run, never mind the achievement. I haven't been to Naxxramas in a long time because every pug I went on couldn't down a single -- yes, you read that right -- boss. >_<

February 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlayea

Well, about the "weavers being up during transfer of phase 1>2" Tbh. even with only 1 ranged class, we had 0 weaver's up by the time shadow fissure hits. Shadow fissure usually happens after you have positioned kel correctly which is a good comfortable 10-15 seconds after he joins the fight (and usually it takes a full 30 secs).
1 ranged class can easily kill a weaver by himself before you get the first fissure.Dont hide bad play behind something thats just not true lol

As you can see on our Kel movie where we do the "Cant get enough" achievement" even with dps focussing on extra abominations we still had 0 weavers up .

So I 100% agree with that knockback being a mistake :P
If you have 0 ranged dont try for undying.
1 ranged ? its enough. Just dont come near. judgement error in the extreme if u ask me. :)

But respect where its due, GZ on the achievement guys

/kiss
