Patch 3.3.3: The LFG Feature and Holiday Bosses (Lie Detector No Longer Needed)

Sure, holiday bosses (and the potential for their phat lootz) are one of the biggest draws for many of us to world events. But up until now, a lot of drama has come with them - the potential for players not being "fresh" for their daily kill, the difficulty in forming groups late in the day, and of course QQ over rolls on loot.

Patch 3.3.3 aims to bring closure to some of those issues by bringing in the LFG system that we so love here at Project Lore. And now we also have a bit of clarification from blue poster Zarhym on exactly how it will be implemented (at least as of now).

Buried within the Patch Notes for 3.3.3 on the PTR, we have this little morsel:

  • World Event bosses (such as Ahune for the Fire Festival) will now be accessible through the Dungeon Finder. Players must use the Dungeon Finder to access these bosses.

And here's what Zarhym said to bring a bit more clarity to the matter:

Just to clarify some misconceptions about this new functionality, the summoning of holiday bosses is going away. Players can queue for these bosses via the Dungeon Finder or special holiday NPCs found in the world. Once the party is finalized, the group will be ported directly to the area where the holiday boss resides. Players can kill the holiday bosses as often as they want for standard loot (epic rings, trinkets, etc.), however, they will only drop one holiday-themed loot trove per player per day. These loot troves will have a chance of containing rare holiday items such as The Horseman's Reins.

The way players were grandfathering in alt characters, scamming others by not having a summon available, and continually soft-resetting dungeons -- creating a major load on instance capacity -- was never intended.

The change has some positive and some negative consequences, however, we feel it's the best way to make this a better system and more in-line with our original plans for World Event bosses.

...Having less people in your party isn't going to affect your chances of obtaining special rewards by any means. If three people are in the party and kill the boss, one holiday-themed loot trove will drop for each person, a total of three. Those three players will not be able to get another trove until the next day.

I, for one, welcome these changes, and I think they'll go a long way in making the world bosses what Blizzard intended them to be -- a fun and special encounter with a small possibility for loot. The extra rare drops (like that Love Rocket that I wanted but never saw) might be even rarer since you'll get only one shot at them dropping each day, instead of five (or more if you had some alt-friendly friends). But we haven't heard whether the drop rate might be somewhat adjusted since we'll only have one shot per day - maybe that will be looked into, as well.

Regardless, if you want to continue queing for a shot at the other loot (or to DE them), you'll still be able to. It also means you'll be able to queue with people who aren't "fresh" and not have to worry about a ninja of that mount you want when they can't even summon the boss. Remember iTZKooPA's lament that we needed a lie detector for the Brewfest boss? That will no longer be an issue. And if something goes wrong and you wipe, you don't lose your shot at the loot trove as long as you can bring the boss down at least once that day.

And the automatic port to the dungeon - well that's just an added bonus.

A couple of potential downsides for some groups - you can't decide in advance who to give loot to (which I've never really done in the past, but know others who have), and your chances of getting a rare drop won't increase if others in your group already have the item or don't want the rare. Overall from my point of view, the good outweighs the bad. But others may see it differently.

Of course, all these changes are still on the PTR and are subject to not be implemented, but the blue post makes it sound like this is a change that likely will be here to stay. I think we'll probably see it in place for Ahune in the Midsummer Fire Festival. How does everyone else like the proposed changes?

Actually, from what the post is saying is that you'll Always get a holiday themed item from a these bosses. So in actually, it Increases your chances at getting them.

And if not, what it's ABSOLUTELY stating is that you can attempt the boss and receive 5 of these Chances items at Once. So you Won't have to do the boss, over, and over, and Over again.

With the Dungeon port, that is All Win.

I hate this!
What I had been doing for Hallows End, and more recently Love is in the Air, is use my summon on my main to get 5 attempts, then go with another group on my main, and when it came time for me to summon I would log my lvl 80 alt, so as to get 9 attempts per day on my main (And sometime my friendly guild mates got saved with me, with full knowledge I was saved already, since they know how much of a mount collector I am, and wanted to help). It also meant that if say that awesome mount everyone's after dropped, and they would prefer the gold I offered them for it, we could trade. Allowing everyone to be happy.
With this, now I technically have the same attempts as it is designed, I don't have as many as I'd like, and if I saw someone else get an awesome drop, there is nothing I can do about it but have a little piece of me nerd rage, then die inside. =[

Totally put my seal of approval on this. Hated all the shenanigans and trying to form groups for summon bosses outside of prime time. The changing of drop rates sucks, but I'll take it for the added convenience and less drama.

But I stylize my name as iTZKooPA!

i am impressed with what i see but only one chance a day seems really discouriging plus whats to stop the person from bailing once they get what they came for a sugestion instead of the bosses dropping loot troves how about token/badge/shard/mark/award/seal similair to the currency we have in game now (JC tokens, cooking awards, badges, stone shards, soon to be gone marks of honnor, seals etc) every kill drops this token for a player one for each player these tokens can be redeemed for loot troves these token/badge/shard/mark/award/seal be also combined to get a better version of the loot troves one with a better chance of dropping the special loot you could combine all 5 into one token/badge/shard/mark/award/seal or you could just combine 2 or only 4 give the players some veriety and drop chance wouldent change sp much

Good and bad. Bad in the way of the only way I got the brewfest mount was my ex giving it to me when she won the roll but very good for the fact we won't have free loaders anymore and ninjas.

Given that I've done both Brewfest and Hollow's End and been screwed over this way before, I'm GLAD for the change! We either had to wait for fricken ever for someone to come, someone would lie about being able to summon, or we'd have one or two members (once, EVERYONE except ME was saved!) who couldn't either do the summoning or had just wanted to come ninja something. It pissed me off! But now, with instant summons to the dungeon and a new way to avoid the liars, I"m happy ^.^

With the seasonal bosses it requires you get the quest before you can summon. Tell everyone to get the quest, and then check in your quest log that it has (4) next to it signifying four other players are on the quest. Do not start summoning until it says 4. If someone is being a jackass and not getting the quest (because they can't as they're saved) start kicking players one by one, reinviting them back before the one minute is up. If the number drops from 3 to 2, reinvite that bloke you just kicked back. If it stays at 3, you've found the culprit. Some quest mods (or it may even be part of the Blizz interface - I'm not sure) list who has the quest when you roll over the quest with your mouse.

Someone hearth and find a mage or warlock so you can get back to civilisation after the kills.
