Braaiiins!!!

Brains!I’m sure everyone has noticed, the new world event is going on right now. Blizzard is now providing us with the reason we all need to charge into Northrend, and the reason is simple: A ZOMBIE ATTACK. Awesome. I am super excited as I missed the world event for BC. I'll just say: I think this is going to be really cool. It is obvious that this is an evolving event, and I can only imagine where this is going to go.

It all started with a crate showing up in booty bay turning somewhat willing victims into zombies. Players get infected by the crate and in 10 minutes time if no action is taken, the turn into full fledged zombies with a whole host of new abilities. During the “infection phase” players can be cured by Argent Dawn healers in the major cities or by friendly (or unfriendly depending on how you look at it) priests and paladins.

Now it is clear the plague is getting stronger. On the second day of the event crates and plagued critters are showing up in all the capitol cities. Additionally the infection is becoming harder to dispel, priests and pallies now usually have to try multiple times to remove the infection.

While it will likely start affecting our play style some, I am very interested to see where this thing goes. The idea of my Paladin fighting off waves of undead zombies controlled by other players is just too cool to be ignored. I can only hope this whole ordeal will involve some sort of cool reward for participating such as a tabard like players received last year. Of course I want a souvenir from the great zombie attack of '08!

While I did run around as a zombie for a little while earlier today I haven’t really had a chance to fully explore the zombie side of things. It appears that after a few days it may be unavoidable. While that may be bothersome to many players I am just along for the ride at this point.

This event is only going to happen one time ever, so I intend to make the most of it. How about you? How are you enjoying your “zombie time?” Are you avoiding the whole scene, or are you running around feasting on delicious brains?

The invasion might end of like the great WoW disease.

I do raids on friendly towns. I am that jackass, yes. :) Me and my guilds main healer go around trashing our factions towns and pissing people off.

We're nice people really. But when your infected and the Lich King tells you to try to kill Thrall, you go and try to kill Thrall :P

Playing a zombie can be really fun - but you need numbers. There are quite a few articles on WoW Insider and such that are a good read if you've not been a zombie yet.

Its amazing fun to group up with alliance & horde players an go zombie raiding through a couple of zones

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterToranus

Although its fun, I generally don't follow this stuff, I miss out on most cool thing sin WoW, never knew or it was not obvious.... Despite that I like the idea, I hated it when they attack the fightmaster in Shattrath so that all gryphons flying infront of the master and you can't click him to fly awy, most annoying. Took me several minutes to finally click him.

I've made a trial account to try out the new patch in Bronzebeard.

The first thing you hear in Northshire is the Headless Horseman yelling, the second thing is players yelling in the general channel to "STOP F*CKING KILLING THE F*CKING ZOMBIES YOU MOTHERF*CKERS!".

They say players who dispell and kill zombies are noobs and twats and retards, but this is not right.

They say they are ruining their fun, and it's a "once in a lifetime experience".

Well, I personally hate zombies, because basically it's just a new way of ganking, but now the guys ganking you is not the opposite faction, but the same Alliance or Horde who fight alongside with you. But atleast you can call them motherf*ckers for ganking you, and they can understand it.

They infect the questgivers, Flightmasters and other important characters so leveling is impossible.

Is this a nice thing to do?

It's only a hassle when I'm trying to complete a quest and then either I or the NPC I'm talking to turns into a zombie.

Other than that, it's great fun :D

A 70 Paladin had to try cleanse 6 times last night before he could cure me...so it does appear that things are going to get more interesting soon.

I also read a post on the Blizzard boards by someone from Blizz that was hinting that things are going to get quite hectic before the event is over.

So... if you have some 70s and are done leveling until you roll a death knight with the 8million other people doing this - great for you. If you are trying to level, this is a load of stupidity if you are playing on a *non-PVP* server. This basically turns all servers into world PvP servers. On my lvl 29 character I have quests from 3 different areas that I cannot turn in because all of the NPCs have been killed. Other quests I cannot get. My bags are getting full of quest items I cannot turn in.

This is basically blizzard sponsored world griefing. If you are playing a PvP server you are used to this. Fine - whatever - that is what you pay for. For the rest of us who don't like world PvP and so don't play on those servers, and if you are actually trying to level your characters, this is the stupidest thing they have ever done.

Doing this for one day or two, great. Super fun. Fantastic. The longer this goes on, the more "stupid group mentality" people get and people who want to level their characters will either just quit for a while or just go play a private server.

its going to be sick wheter you like it or not a myriad of zombies comming at you priceless.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterfalkrinbar

Looks like normal gameplay is getting shelved for some, which is ok for me as, Im a semi casual player and I freakin' love zombies!

I can see how this could be annoying in some instance, but my advice is to give in and start participating in the fun! There will be plenty of time for questing and such when we are free of the zombie epidemic.

Bart: "You killed Zombie Flanders!"
Homer: "Flanders was a Zombie?"

in EU- Lightning's blade

we at the horde decided to kill our own thrall =D

and we raped him =D

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenternebrakaneizzar

Hunters, while they can't remove disease, have some of the best abilities to stay at range and not get infected. I am loving the whole idea of solo huntering fighting off hordes of zombies in the forests. Kind of a protector of the land thing. No affiliation, no tabard (except maybe Cenarion Expedition).

Its too bad you have to deal with the QQ'ing from other players about killing their zombies.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commentertoque

Wow some people are really angry about this. I tend to look at it in the same vein as what I believe to be the majority...it will happen once in the game's history so I'm along for the ride and I plan on having as much fun with it as I can.

My suggestion to those who are interested in leveling and don't like the idea of being attacked by a mob of zombies is...GIVE IN AND JOIN THE MOB! What could be more fun than rolling with a supergroup of the undead crushing every mighty warrior you come across.

If you're not interested in having FUN, maybe you shouldn't be playing a GAME. =P

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterlawman30

In response to the comment about the group killing Thrall, if you kill the faction leaders as a zombie, will it count for the achievement?

If so, I better join a zombie mob now before Blizz nerfs it.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterlawman30

I am so tired of people telling me to just lay back and enjoy it. To be fair, I did try it. My level 42 zombie butt promptly got kicked by a level 70. So not fun. I am also peeved that this is ruining Hallow's End. I'm not high enough level to go kill the horseman and now I can't participate in trick or treating (innkeepers keep dying) or stopping the fires (the towns are overrun with zombies).

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHarper

1 time on my server there where probably 60+ people from one guild that were infecting in thralls room waiting to turn into zombies and once they did they attacked him, although it didnt go so well considering the gaurds are now lvl 75:P

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJustin

I am trying to avoid getting turned into a zombie. its not fun no achievement for it (yeah i am chievement whore) and if i am lvl grinding with a buddy it takes the fun out. now i will say this. I have been turned into a zombie a few times and had a little fun, but now its like the Wii. its fun at first but now the novelty has worn off.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPokesomi

It's nice, but since I've just joined Exec and am trying to level, it does tend to try my patience. I'll have some fun with it this weekend though.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterOrvidos

Now it's just 5 min before you turn into a zombie.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRugi

... don't forget the total reset of your action bar once the 'zombie' you is dead... NOT my idea of fun, trying to remember the config. I had...

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJeff

I ran around goldshire and noticed they killed the npc that gives the daily for the hallowed eve. I was never infected.

October 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHenry Petty

@Rugi

Just 5 minutes now? It is getting stronger!! Thanks for pointing that out. It will be interesting to see how low this thing goes.
