How Do You Want Arthas To Die?

Death By Tar & Feathering? Death By Tar & Feathering?

Patch 3.3 is so close that I can almost connect to the PTR long enough to play it.  We've been waiting for this content patch ever since it we revealed that Arthas would be joining the game dedicated to him a little late - by C'Thun the star could never arrive on time.  Now that we have the PTR housing patch 3.3, the first round of ever-changing patch notes, maps of the dungeons and lots more, one burning question remains.  How will Arthas die?

Let's start with the more appropriate question.  Will Arthas die?

It has almost become cliche that World of Warcraft's bosses manage to slip through death's grasp at the last second.  A large number of the best known bosses have merely been de-summoned, released from someone's control or regained their sanity (put down at his request).  In the case of the Old Gods, we mortals have been fighting parts of them, leading some to believe that we've only faced a portion of their vast power.  Is it possible that Blizzard could allow one of Warcraft's most infamous villains to avoid the grave?!

Hell no.  The disservice done to fans by allowing Arthas/The Lich King to live would be unfathomable.  He's going down.

Of course, then we return to the original discussion, how do you want Arthas to die?  Blizzard could go one of a hundred ways for Arthas' demise, so I can only tell you how I'd like to see him die.  That would be by Jaina's hand.  If there's anyone who needs redemption for all Arthas has done (that's still alive) it is Jaina, his former lover.

Rather than another Maiev + raiders vs. Illidan team-up, I'd like to see Arthas go all Hulk on us, freezing our toons when we get him to zero HP.  As he's toying with us, attempting to crack our minds, Jaina pops out of no where to confront him.  Being the former suave Prince The Lich King tries to sweet talk his former mate, only to be struck down mid sentence by an icy bolt, and then finished off with a melee move from her staff.  Double tap, it's important.  Her icy demeanor would vanish as he falls to the ground, and then she'd weep over his fallen corpse (as we looted it) as she curses the gods for putting her in such a position.

The odds of my vision coming to fruition are slim to none, but it doesn't hurt to dream.  It wasn't until I finished reading Christie Golden's book that I came to believe Jaine is the only person to send the Prince of Lordaeron six feet under.  How do you want the former paladin to go down?  What about you hordies?  You likely have a different view on this whole Scourge debacle since one of the leaders of your nation-states didn't date the backstabbing necromantic.  Although I hear Thrall has the hots for Jaina.  Just a rumor someone's spreading.  And there is that Slyvanas lady.  Perhaps she'll get her revenge in the horde script?

I would like to see Sylvanas get her final revenge against Arthas. Similar to what you posted koopa, except instead of jaina, it's sylvanas, and she pops out of nowhere to turn him into a pincushion.

Lame, I know, but best I can come up with.

HA! take that firsters!

Alliance will get Jaina to fight along side them.

Horde will get the Banshee Queen.

Although I don't think Arthas will die. He's too big a character.

It would be cool to see jaina finish him off

First, I hope they make it faction specific. Think about it, if they could somehow tie this in to Garosh becoming Warchief. Who better to lead than the one that dealt Arthas the final blow?

On the Alliance side maybe the Jaina route (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned), or may Varian pops in to get his parting shots in to gain support for his future campaigns.

I dont think they will let us kill him i got a feeling that "special fate" they have for frostmourne will end up "setting arthas free" or something to that effect but i wouldnt mind seeing our resident banshee queen stuff his face full of arrows

What I would LOVE to see is Jaina to take/shot off the Lich King's helm getting Arthas back, he drops the sword and be comes a knight of the ebon blade. A death knight puts on the helm and picks up Frostmoure while everyone's distracted and ANOTHER lich king is born. Arthas can come back and take the thrown from the Human Garrosh that's running the alliance with Jaina at his side. Then give Wyrnn Theramore or something. Buuut seeing as Tirion destroyed Arthas' heart meaning there's NO WAY. (sad face) But hey can't wait to see what happens and hopes it's gonna be EPIC!!

I think the one who will die is not Arthas, but the Lich King. Somehow Arthas will be saved by someone or something and we shall see him in some other time.

But yeah, Koopa's idea is cool. If someone "deserves" to kill Arthas, that would be Jaina.

like the fight with illidan that has the other guy helping,i would like too see the leader of your chars faction coming and helping aswell!

or for example, for the horde i would like to see thrall or saurfang comming and pwning him with the last help of the horde raid.

for the alliance king Varian or The Ashbringer doing the same.

a doggy style with jaina would be cool too

I think it would be more appropriate for the following to happen:

1) Tirion kills "Arthas", but dies himself in doing so.

2) Darion WTFPWNS "Arthas", and then gives a LONG speech

3) Alexandros Mograine makes the final blow, killing "Arthas"

I'd prefer not to kill him actually. I would like to in the battle have any humanity left in him realize he is about to die and fight himself. I'd like to see Ner'zhul's spirit come out and be destroyed. We loot the sweet armor and gear, Jaina gets kids. Yay more lore! Just me though....

in my opinion i think it should not be faction spesific. i think all the big leaders should come in and roflpwn arthas or the lich king and maybe save arthas. we know both sides will be there because of the big gunship fight

Honestly, I think that it depends on faction, to go along with the 5man dungeons.

Horde Raid: As the players make Arthas hit zero, he'll either freeze them or fear them so that they can't move. BUT Sylvannis, Darion Morgrain, and Tirion appear, with Sylvannis making a remark of 'Vengeance is mine at last, you wretch!' Then fire her arrows and kill him. Tirion will lament on how far the prince had fallen, and Hordies happily loot him.

Alliance Raid: Same scenario except its Jaina in place of Sylvannis, and possibly Varian as well. Jaina will blast him with a firebolt, while Tirion delivers the last blow with the Ashbringer. Jaina will weep, Tirion laments, and Alliance forces get to grab all the loot they want ^.^

In other words I agree with what Carlos aka Kershock thinks. But I want this to all have a begining (All thats in The Rise of The Lich King book) middle and end(all that has happened as the Lich King including our epic battle tearing down every bit of that loreful horror-filled building and attacking and murdering THE LICH KING ((not arthas)) and an epilouge (what happens to the Arthas we like AKA Mathias Lehner kinda and Jaina and everything else including a possible return to the humans and an outcome we have yet to see). I want story blizz, you hear that a good STORY.

To Blizz,
I do like how much effort you have put into creating this game into a world.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThrall'sLeave

I want somehow for us to defeat but not kill him. Have horde drag him in chains to undercity and have a cutsequence where Sylvanas has her final justice. Do something similar for Varian Wrynn in Stormwind for Alliance. Big cutscene all the NPCs involved. I think that might be a proper storyline ending to finish off the lich king.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTristan

As an added note, I think as he dies, 'Arthas' will separate from what was 'The Lich King' and while the Lich King dies, Arthas' human soul will be purified and rejoin the Light, being guided there by his father's and Uther's spirits.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAzurienatei

Maybe...if Arthas is redeemed (doubtful) and Tirion DOES die in battle (Likely), maybe....

*GASP*

Arthas is the ASHBRINGER!!

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterOctaviax

Not really his death, but a cool mechanic for his fight would be tonnes of adds on your side, with random names and appearances, and gear and spells based on the 10 classes. Just pretend for one fight that 10-25 heroes isn't enough, that this is the one final effort of life on azeroth, even for players.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRaethos

Personally!!!!!

1. I have heard stories that Arthas consumed Ner'zhul and that Arthas is the only being as The Lich King (which pisses me off to the max!!!), so I would like to see Ner'Zhul resurface using his vast power at the end of the fight and tear Arthas apart (within of course). Then Kil'jaeden appears (hell maybe even Sargeras!!!) and blows 'em both to hell!

2. Fight pauses at 1% and Arthas goes all beastial wrath on us. Arrow through the throat, Sylvanas walks out, tapping of the keg.

3. Saurfang cleaves Icecrown.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMr.Vincent

He has to go down with something BIG. I think in the fight there will be many "helpers of each faction" and one of them will kiss the floor, when their face smacks it.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDeeJayDieSeL

I'd like to see Jaina pop up right before Arthas does that sweet Apocalypse attack we saw during the Death Knight ending quest line, and say something cliche like "Apocalyp-What?!" and Jaina does some sweet sexy mage attack, and then afterward she could finally give Arthas her last good byes.

For Sylvanas, I'd like to see sort of the same thing, but an arrow from above or another cliche line right before Arthas does a final move on our useless, frozen bodies. Maybe Arthas takes off his helm and holds it to his side, then she shoots him in the head or something well written XD.

If my ideas sound anything like anyone's above me, sorry! I didn't read any of them and this is just from the top of my head.

Nice post Koopa! This is really ganna make my mind wonder while I'm bored.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDrenton

you should get somone from argent crusade there, your faction leader, somone from forsakens and even the aspects... pretty much evryone wants to kick his ass these days xD

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteridle

I'm sensing while the horde and alliance will have diffrent scrips for the 5-mans leading to the raid, the raid "sequence" will be the same. Involving perhaps both Sylvanas and Jaina.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTaskun

He seriously needs to die. He was irredeemable even before he even touched the Frostmourne.

October 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDreadtusk

I can't help but think that as the players get him down to zero, that Jaina will somehow appear and cause Arthas and the Lich King to seperate and the Lich King will then be killed. And then while everybody is celebrating, Sylvannas will appear from out of nowhere and kill Arthas in cold blood.
