Brewfest May Be Gone But There Is Plenty To Come
Juggynaut was one of those lucky players to see a Brewfest mount drop during the seasonal event. Sadly, Juggy was not lucky enough to win, rolling an amazing 30. On the last possible run of the event, started at 11:59PM server time, Juggynaut's squad was once again met with a trinket drop. So long to Brewfest for another year. But don't worry folks, like in the real world, the citizens of Azeroth have plenty of holidays coming in the next few months.
- Hallow's End (October 18th – November 1st) – Blizzard's take on the North American holiday of Halloween. Event includes the Headless Horsemen, Bobbing for Apples, Innkeepers handing out Tricks or Treats and more.
- Feast of Winter Veil (December 15th – January 2nd) – Celebration of various religious holidays although primarily focuses on the idea of Santa Claus and gift giving. The event allows all players to receive free loot from the main cities, kissing under Mistletoe and the always annoying fun, snowballs.
- New Year (December 31st – January 1st) – This one should be fairly obvious, the celebration of the new year by the Gregorian calendar. This event doesn't have too much to do but does have fireworks at Stormwind, Thunder Bluff, and Booty Bay.

No More Brewfest
Last night at 12am server time, the new and improved Brewfest event packed up and left town. Pop your head out of Ironforge or Orgrimmar and you'll see that those in charge really take the "Leave only footprints" idea to a whole new level. Anyone who hasn't logged on might not even know that Brewfest was around, unless they take a glance around town and see tons of ram and kodo footprints. And speaking of those mounts, how many of you ended up with one or both of them? How many tries did it take you. I, for one, had a miserable time looking for the kodo. I spent a couple of days leeching other people's summons of the boss, often with everyone's favorite Paladin Tank on Executus who also blogs on Project Lore, Bastosa, hoping that the RNG (random number generator) would be kind enough to allow the kodo to drop and would bless me with the highest roll. The first half didn't happen once in the first 13 and three quarters days. However, last night, around, 11:55pm server time. I had just brought in some fresh blood, Lylelovett, to help summon. We were running low on both time and guildies who hadn't done the daily quest Save Brewfest. We managed to find one more person with one more alt who would be able to activate the boss and give us one more shot at a kodo. The rogue insulted Coren to activate the encounter. Lylelovett tanked. Talonni did some poor DPS. I did some ass kicking. Quedy healed. A kodo dropped. Everyone need. Rolls: Talonni rolls a 3. Juggynaut rolls a 30. Lylelovett rolls a 90. Quedy rolls a 99. The rogue passes (it's an alt). Sad times for this shaman. We managed to start one more attempt at 11:59, and one of the lame trinkets dropped. Well, there's always Hallow's End.
Who Are You Getting To Level 80?
My fellow blogger Bastosa recently posted a nice article on the grind to level 80. It will be interesting to see how well the 5-man instancing team sticks together. From my previous experiences, running with a group of friends over and over caused us to become a bit competitive. One evening, we called it a night after a few productive hours of grinding XP. Well, we woke up to see that our Mage had stayed up all night to get three levels higher. It wouldn't have been the end of the world if he wasn't six levels higher than the lowest person, and refused to come back and help us. The Mage's overly competitive nature basically killed our group. Bastosa's logic – that a group leveling together in instances should create skilled raiders down the road - is sound nonetheless and I hope it works out for them. For me, I will be going the same route as a few of the commentators, questing and exploration. Here is the major difference though, I will be leveling my newly acquired level 59.99 Priest instead of my faithful Rogue. Thanks to the Refer-A-Friend benefits, my buddy and I managed to level up a new set of alts to level 59.99 in under three days playtime. For the moment, we are both enjoying our never-before-played class and do not feel like stopping. By the time Wrath of the Lich King drops on November 13th, my new Priest should be 70. At that time I hope to have enough experience under my belt as a healer – yes, also my first healbot - to begin healing in all of the new 5-man instances. Heck, if all goes well and I ding 70 with time to spare, I will probably start a tank on that server. People always need a tank. We have to burn those extras hand me down levels somehow. This isn't to say that I am abandoning my Rogue. I have been roguing since day 1 and have no intention of stopping. Yes, there have been ups and down through that time. Rogues were overpowered to begin with, causing us to be nerfed left and right. C'Thun was incredibly annoying as a dagger Rogue. Gruul is just annoying, and I still have little group utility (that will change with the Echoes of Doom patch). It would be nice to say that I will try to co-level the characters on my main server. Trading back and forth to get the most benefit from Rested XP, but honestly, that is just a pipe dream. So what about you guys? Sticking with your main? Taking this opportunity to switch your main? Re-rolling Death Knight? Or experiencing the new content with an alt first? Bastosa, best of luck to you and your group. Be sure to update us when you ding level 75. I can't wait to do the Heigan dance again – the pull to him...not so much.
Your Dark Place In The World
Not too long ago I wrote about my experiences in Mount Hyjal and gave everyone the opportunity to share our favorite places to play. I really enjoyed reading through your comments, and you definitely brought back some good memories of leveling in Duskwood and my first steps into Nagrand. Today I want to flip that. I will tell you right now there is an instance I flat out REFUSE to step foot in. Ask anyone in my guild, you can't pay me to go in there. The instance I'm talking about is Slabs (or The Shadow Labyrinth, if you prefer). There are several reasons I hate this place, but you can pretty much chalk it up to two really bad experiences. For quite a while I skated along running it every so often, no major issues to speak of. Then I had the run that will live in infamy. I was just killing some time one random afternoon, so I gathered up a group of friends (including DrDark, who now loves Slabs about as much as I do) and decided to knock out a quick instance run. Things started okay, then it happened. We wiped no less that 15 times on Grandmaster Vorpil. Chalk it up to inexperience, flawed strat, or whatever. The point is it was utterly painful! Four hours later we finally made our way to Murmur. Another 8-10 wipes and we just called it. This group was fairly skilled, and stubborn as all hell, but we finally just had to cut our losses and move on with our lives. You can finish Kara in less time! I was at a bit of a loss for why the run was so bad, but It was at that moment I swore off Slabs, I felt like I didn't really need to put myself through that again... Alas, probably 4 months later I was starting to get pretty well geared and was working on my TK attunement quests. Guess where it sends me? Heroic Slabs. Oh Joy. I thought about this for a while, Slabs couldn't be near as bad as I remember right? What the hell, lets do this thing! So we did. I was a much better player, and put together a pretty impressive group. So in we go, thinks were going smooth until Blackheart the Inciter. Then all hell breaks loose. 6-7 wipes on Blackheart, at least 10 on Vorpil, and 5 on Murmur. I don't know if we were having an off day, but it was another 4 hour run from hell. It was that point I swore to myself, and meant it, no more Slabs, NEVER AGAIN. This time I've stuck to it, and I never see myself going back. In fact it's become the big joke in the guild whenever Slabs pops up as the heroic daily. "Bast will tank! He loves Slabs!" Har har, my response has become canned "never again." I'm hoping I'm not the only one who has this strong of feelings against an instance. There is no other instance in the game I mind running, and I rarely wipe in heroics at all, but something about Slabs just sends chills down my spine. Do you guys have any hellish experiences to share, or any instances that you flat refuse to run? I completely understand if you do, trust me.
